Ok.!! My boss just found out that he drew the late Quality Naneum deer tag. November 11-17th
I archery elk hunt the Naneum up high though. I have seen a few bucks in September. He has hunted deer in the Coleman and cook area. But regular season. I will look up the search and see what I can find. I don’t see there being lots of snow? Just fishing for ideas. I know the Naneum well. Just need ideas for deer.
Thank You

Bucks will be right at the snow line with the does.
-
Might see you in there. Uncle drew one also, one of these years the snow will come early. Rainer10 has it right.
-
Maybe this year. I had the multi season elk tag last year and where I go I was in the snow. Saw lots of elk and some does. Maybe check out the bluette side to
-
Was up off the Colockum last year on Veterans Day and saw a big bodied forkhorn that was running about six does. Given how skinny it is around there (incl Coleman & Cooke), I would have dropped him if I had that tag.
-
There’s plenty chance of there being a lot of snow and snowing hard at that time. Just same as it could be dry and sunny.
-
id work the sage frindges
-
I had the tag in 2014 or 2015 and it sucked!!!! I had a lot of snow the rut was going good but I couldn't turn any good bucks. Not even a decent 3pt. I saw 20 - 30 2pts every day. I spent some time around private looking to see if I could find any bucks with size and it was just more 2pts. It is one of the worst quality hunts I have ever been on. Good luck.
-
If I had that tag I would focus between Reecer , Green and 1st creek. Bucks in the sage at night then move up into timber at dawn. Been a while but used to see some bruisers
-
As a side note
Its stupid they even give out quality tags in the Naneum, they need to give it a break for a few years. LIKE MOST OF THE STATE

:yeah: I would set a reasonable goal of a nice 4x4 in the 135-145" class. You should see lots of deer and have a great time with very little hunter pressure. Like others have said hunt the sage/treeline fringes.
-
I really appreciate all of your responses. I hunt the Naneum creek side every year and always bump into a buck or two in the thick timber. I will checkout the 97 side after the rifle elk is over for him. Should be fun. I will be with him the first couple days.
Good luck to all this year.

I spend a few photography days in there every year. There is some real potential. The giants tend to be private'ed up. They get the heck poached out of them. They have nabbed poachers in there like the last three years. THe trend seems to be stick em and let em die and then sneak in and get them on the private. The landowners are fed up! There is also a fair amount of legal tribal harvest in the area.

I’ve seen quite a few truck loads of jerky come out of there. Obviously not during season, well ours anyways

Yep. Or at least the date needs to go deeper into November as many years the 17th does not even hit pre rut.

This hunt needs to go away for few years. Between all the apex predators four and two legged and the hair lose issue this herd has taken a beating . If managed properly it would produce a true quality buck again. You can’t have strong genetics with spikes and two point breeding your does. Good luck on the hunt and tell your boss if he doesn’t find a trophy to at least take a cull buck.

Let me know another Politically correct way to express what I have seen with my own eyes that won’t be deleted on this forum and I would be happy to reword my posts

Unpackaged hydrated meat slabs? :chuckle:

Anything being seen up there as deer movement
Is there much snow anymore on top?
-
One guy in our elk bow hunting group saw one nice buck in the Naneum this year. No shot though
-
In general region, saw 10 bucks yesterday, all doe'd up and rutting. Not "dumb" yet
-
Almost time
So much for the snow line. They should still be rutted up
-
Bucks were chasing does this past weekend when we were elk hunting for my daughters cow tag. I think the rut should be in full swing starting next week, perfect timing. Find the does and the bucks will be close. Every group of 10-12 does we saw had one legal buck and one young buck with them.
-
Tomorrow morning is the opener.
Good luck to all who have the tag. My boss is up there camping. Saw some deer scouting today. We will see
-
Good timing
weather and moon are brutal, but i filmed two six points. yes mule deer, at noon, so dont think 65 will stop them. They were rutting hard 100 yards apart
-
Like Doug said, rut timing is good. watched a doe get mounted today while Chukar hunting in the Swakane
-
Can’t post his pictures but he got a small 3x3. He saw lots of does.
-
Thanks for letting us know. I bet he did see a ton of does. The full moon and foggy days probably didn’t help.
