Anybody of any boats selling Albacore in Ilwaco? None to be found in Westport as of yet.  :bash: Thanks!

Did you get ahold of Coleman in Westport? He has a commercial license and has been catching.

No, don't know him. We usually buy from the Hustler in Westport. Thanks.

so I've done a little research on buying Tuna and this is what I've come up with...please let me know if my calculations are wrong as we would like to get some for canning.
20 lb whole tuna at 3.50/ lb is approx. $70.  add about $5 to fillet and from what I've heard you get about 1/2 total weight for fillets so we are talking approx. 10 lbs of fillets for the $75?  does this sound about right as you guys know more about this than I do ?

thanks

I get it from Kirby’s fish who I think is based out of Longview but goes to some of the farmers markets around Lewis/Thurston counties as well.   Think he is around 7 bucks a pound for fillets ( or 3.50 a pound for the whole fish and he fillets it for free)  kind of the going rate.   One thing I’ve learned buying tuna is paying cash helps

F/V Hustler charges $3.50 a lb. straight, no extra for filleting. I think that's standard.

I just bought 100# from F/V Jetstream in Westport was $3.00 lb. for whole fish and $4.00 a lb. for fillet fish. Was Excellent quality and he gets the fillets clean of all the blood line.
If I was getting more Tuna that's were I'd go.

By the way, they're catching some big bluefin lately out of Ilwaco. Also striped marlin and mako shark. A 90 lb bluefin was caught on Monday. That fish could easily bring $10K or more. The previous WA record was 38 lbs.

In addition to the loins, think about grilling some tuna bellies for sandwiches.....some mayo/tartar sauce, a slice of tomato...….just a quick blast of heat/flame and be careful, very oily so it can flare up...….but they make one hell of a sandwich.
