Does anyone have experience in getting DNR Land reopened to camping after being closed?
-
spill the beans, what area and why was it closed? So many reasons they close areas, from endangered frogs/fauna/salamanders to trash dumping to ????
but ya, pretty much good luck getting it opened again in any case

Located in Yakima County in the Nile Valley 3/4 mile up The 1500 Road from the Bridge over the Little Rattlesnake Creek. This Land Has been Used by Many Sportsman and others for camping for more than 30 years, I Personally have been camping there for 24 years as well as at least other 20 campsGPS Location N.46.81607 W.120.94257. Closed due supposedly one tent camp Throwing bags of Excrement into woods Sounds gross I admit but no on else saw this

Maybe write them a grant to get a vault toilet and a full time person to go and clean it.
Hopefully that area stays closed. They were working on closing it off after the elk season last year is what I was told and surface *censored*s were visible remnants from what was left of the rifle elk camps.
You're right about the *censored*. The rifle elk people who stayed there at the north end of that should be partially to blame for the surface *censored*ting. Adds up over time with squatters, and partiers too.

Wouldn't issuing tickets be an option? It's not like we don't know exactly when the problem will happen, where it is and who is involved. In my opinion, the lack of enforcement is fueling pretty brazen behavior these days between garbage, trespassing, running quads around closed gates and everything else.

or its an excuse to shut down another area, forcing people into established campgrounds.
slobs make it too easy to find excuses...

Going to be alot of people looking for a new camp.

for those in the know, that 1500 area "campground" used to be an old ranger station.
I was archery hunting elk, have multi tag, in 356. Got checked by DNR up by jct 1500-1502 for Discover Pass. Of course had one on my dash.
DNR guy explained people were overstaying the 14 day limit and warnings did no good. I myself have observed trailers set before deer season and remaining there until end of rifle elk season.
Last straw was last year, septic/blue water tanks were dumped in the area, next to 1500 road.
That's it...too close to endangered bull trout stream; Rattlesnake creek.
add: the cost was $,$$$ to clean up the toxic dump.
main guy said they will be checking and enforcing that area this year and several other areas in the green dot coverage area.
several other new rules this year. One being no camping more than 100' from a green dot road.
NOTE: I have hunted 356-360 units since 1966. Only missed 2 years during those years due to college finals.

I have no idea why most people seem to have a problem with digging a hole to do their business. I spend more time rejecting camps due to toilet paper strewn about the woods or nasty poop buckets left out. It was easy more of a problem this year than previous it seems.

Being a ‘newer’ hunter I was invited to hunt there with people that had been camping there for many years. As stated they show up before archery and stay until after modern. Most in the camp I visited didn’t stay the entire time, they would just show up on weekends. One guy did stay basically they whole time with relief from others at times. Basically one guy with a bunch of trailers most of the time. The camp was pretty cool I’m not gonna lie, very homey feeling - like a trailer park! While showing me the camp I actually asked how they got rid of they black water. It didn’t make sense to me how they could stay for so long without moving their trailers - something I am used to doing with my trailer. They had an outhouse that they used the majority of the time rather than the trailers, but it’s obviously a lot nicer to use the trailer when it’s snowing and such. He told me that when need, and especially towards the end of their hunt they would dig holes and empty their black into the ground and cover the hole. Disgusting. I never did hunt with the guy I love him to death and he would kill me if he knew I posted this, but what he was doing just wasn’t right to me.

Nasty, you can always drive the trailer back into town and dump it like a responsible person would. Or, you can go to any of the area campgrounds with vaults, or you can dig a hole. Many options are out there.

Proximity to the stream is probably what got this shut down, otherwise other camps like the one in "the pit" up the road will be closed as well.

They make portable rv dumps, I was wanting to get one for the NEWA fair as some of the rv slots there dont have full hookups and once your parked, and everyone else is parked, there aint no moving the trailer!
I could also dump the rv at home into my septic with this after Ive had guests in it hmmmm

Well that’s not a crappy idea at all! Ha ha, see what I did there?
I had no idea they made such a thing. I see three sizes 25 32 and 42. Filled with water that would make the 25 about 200lbs full and the 42 over 300lbs! I guess it depends on how far your going with these things and how big your tank is.
