Curious to see if this one gets taken, looks legal to me.
-
Kill him. That’s a legal “True Spike.”
-
That's almost as rare as an in focus bigfoot video.
-
I saw him before the opener
-
I got 4 spikes on one camera... Can't freaking wait for the opener lol
-
I’d call him a trike 😂
-
Legal. I'd shoot him.

:yeah:
-
Not a true spike in my opinion..

Why not? Just curious of your reasoning.

Id like to know if thats considered 2 points on one side ?
True Spike Bull Restrictions: Bull elk taken in
these units must have both antlers with no
branching originating more than four inches
above where the antlers attach to the skull.
Under the true spike restriction, the taking
of an elk that has two points on one side
or has antler points within one inch of the
definitions regarding length of point, or point
of origination, is an infraction.
All other types
of violations of the true spike restriction are
subject to current penalties and assessments.
-
Both points on that side branch/originate less than 4” above where the antler attaches to the skull.
-
:yeah:
It’s legal.
-
Think I would pass on that one. Unless you can find a game warden and ask. Not worth the cost I my opinion. To me it’s a two point.

Can someone explain that? So if the point originates more than 4 inches above the base of the antler it is a 2 point and if it originates within 1 inch of the 4 inch mark then it's also an infraction? So really it's only 3 inches max? So confused.

That's the way I read it also. Now I'm confused.

definitely a stupid rule regardless
to me a true spike is a smooth spike
the rule is confusing as hell as written

If you go by you will have to ask all the game wardens because like people on here they will all say something different. Half of them will say any point besides the spikes and the other half will say only if it has a branch 4” above where antlers attach to the skull. :chuckle:
-
Kill him.

The purpose of the rule is that eyegaurda don’t count, a true spike means both sides have to be a spike, not just one side. But eyegaurds on a spike, or true spike, don’t count. The 4 inch rule is the arbitrary line they drew to make it law. The added confusion, that makes it actually 3 inches is just to say, “if it’s close don’t shoot it.” Most game wardens will never measure if you are doing everything else right. They just look at it and say, yep, spike with a eyegaurd, or in the case of this thread, wow, cool, still a spike, good for you.
