I was thinking the other day about what a great site this has been for a long time. I've been a member of this site for as long as I've been married; longer than my daughter has been alive. Through 4 jobs and 3 house builds...
When i joined this site, I had just gotten out of the Navy and was motivated to become a great hunter. The site has lots of great information, member's willing to help, and most importantly (for me), guys on the site who had consistently taken mature animals year after year. Guys like Huntnphool and Boneaddict were an inspiration to me. If they could do it, maybe I could too? That pushed me to try and emulate their successes.
I've met some great people on this site and even got to share a few hunts with folks. I've also made lifelong friends.
When I joined this site, I had never taken a mule deer over about 155' or a whitetail over 130". I have much to owe to this site and hope that I can help others find success as those folks who have and continue to help me. If nothing else, I will continue to share my successes and time to time, a story if time allows.
Below is a little timeline, through success photos, of my time on hunt-wa.

Awesome!!!!! Love it!!!

It’s quite a compliment to think I helped inspire you. I look forward every year to hearing about your hunts. There are very few that reach the level of dedication and thus the success that you have. I’m glad you are willing to share your hunts and experiences here at huntwa. It’s one of the things I look forward too.
-
I love this post so much, and yes please can this be a trend? I want to see more history posts from some of the more seasoned hunters on here and I know there's more than a few!
Thanks again this is extremely motivating and I appreciate the time you took to post it.
-
Congrats on all of your hard work and success! You are now the inspiration for folks to follow!

I've met some great people on this site and even got to share a few hunts with folks. I've also made lifelong friends.
Lifelong friends indeed! ;)
What he neglected to mention is he’s helped out plenty of people himself. He helped my daughter get her first buck, and I’ll never forget the look on his face when the first buck he got her on at 10 years old, she had in her crosshairs and told him it was too small. :chuckle:
She ended up getting a young whitetail and had a fantastic time in the field.
He also helped me get a nice muley out of state, both bucks are pictured below.
Great post my friend, I’m pulling for you to tag that whitetail you have been dreaming of! ;)
-
Good stuff JJ. Congratulations on your success.
-
Cool idea for a thread, and very nice animals!
-
You've done well and looks like you've come a long way over the years. Great pics and continued success to you.
-
This is a great thread! I've been successful in big blacktails and whitetails but have never harvested a big muley. For several years I've been watching your mule deer success and it has inspired me to try myself. I've been buying Wyoming points and looking into other states as well. So if I can ever take a good buck some of the credit should go to you and your willingness to share your hunts on here. And obviously those other two you mentioned! Thanks for the time you put in on here. Seems we should spend more time communicating to each other on this forum how much we appreciate the time and effort it takes to share on here.

Such good stuff!

Nah, I can’t afford to mount em, only shoot em. He’s in my “big buck” pile. Haha

Y'know JJ... If you had dropped all of those capes off with a taxidermist for credit, you'd have a "free mount" by now....
-
Dang JJ, I would think you could pick at least 1 to get mounted :chuckle:

I shot and lost one in 2018 that I would have mounted. I keep thinking that eventually I will kill a true giant that will dwarf my nice bucks. If I can kill two or three world class deer before I hang it up, I’ll mount em and grow old looking at them.

I don’t have any good pics of it. All pics of it laying on its side. I need to step up my picture game. When I’m alone, it’s terrible.

Do better this fall.

Cool thread nice bucks, what’s the story on the Toyota?
Hit a big muley buck square on 4th of July pass trying to get home for Thanksgiving dinner on my way back from Montana. My prize Toyota pickup…shot the buck pictured above him that morning. Had him in the back.
-
That’s a wild story! Is the Toyota still around hauling bucks? Did you get to keep the buck you hit? Any pictures of the buck from the accident?
-

I sold the pickup in 2013. Didn’t keep the buck, although I had an un-punched Idaho deer tag in my pocket. He was 160” type buck.
-
Pretty good line-up this year, maybe the best group of deer tags I’ve ever had. Should have some pics to post this fall.
Idaho Controlled Rifle Deer
WA Late Rifle Deer
Alberta Combo Mule Deer/Whitetail
4 rifle tags - Should be a good one!
