What season is open?  Archery ended the 19th and muzzy opens the 5th? :dunno: permit?

Am assuming multi season tag.

Yes, the elk should still be there.  I hunt a very heavily pressured elk herd, and even with the heavy pressure I find them in the same drainage (granted it's a huge drainage) during archery, muzzy and even rifle seasons in the snow.  Most of the herd migrates to lower elevation in heavy snow, but there are bulls that still hang out in the deep snow long into the winter.

You just have to look hard to find them each season, and know where they like to hide when the mass of hunters arrive with each season.  Some do blow out of the area, but usually they're just hiding on a shelf on a steep mountain that most humans won't try to go down.

Even with a multiseason tag your only allowed to hunt the open general seasons I believe.  At least that is what I was told by game wardens for clarificatuon back when I got it

I took it as he saw a herd during archery season, and is asking in preparation of next weekend.  (ie I'm hoping he wasn't actually hunting today, out of season or was maybe just scouting or bear hunting today)

If your scouting and if your on the west side.   You should be fine and for the most part they will stay put unless more snow comes in.   That may push them lower. I would go muzzy.

I would also advise muzzy if west side.  Bulls are still talking opening weekend, usually.

why is it when i ask a question on here people are more interested in playing armchair game warden then just speaking on the posted topic? every..single ..time.. i shouldn't have to explain who, why, or how, it seems people might either comment on the topic or keep scrolling  and dont take offense, i mean, i appreciate you lookin out for me if i make a statement that would lead you to believe that im "going to break a law" but come on this question didnt say anything of the sort, it was about elk staying in the same area for a long period of time.
But since i must answer this to appease the forum wardens, and make everyone feel all warm and fuzzy, disabled status allows me to hunt any ONE season i choose, IF I'm using a crossbow, and since my son is getting one i was kicking around the idea of using it for muzzy instead of waiting for modern because im worried this herd will blow out of the area by Nov 4th.
anyways not tryin to be a dick just pointing out i keep deleting posts because these are the main types of replies i get, mainly offtopic nosey prodding replies questioning my ethics or legal tactics, it gets old. maybe people could focus on the actual topic at hand instead of making people explain themselves.

Ok.  I think you know me a bit better than that.   I had never questioned anything you have done.   You post is very vague and could be misinterpretted if you ask me.   It sounded as if your were hunting.  People would gladly turn you in and get 10 points if they wanted.  Also game wardens cruise this forum quite regularly.  I know because my name was mentioned ro someone that was questioned matter that where we did nothing wrong just mistaken identy of a bull that he posted and I commented on in the forum.  Just trying to help and if you did notice we did provide information.

If they dont get blown out by other hunters you should have a good chance. Good luck an I hope you harvest one.

Hunt the earliest time you can.
:yeah: If they've been there regularly and recently, I'd get in there ASAP.
