Not really sure why but I'm starting to think and island black bear hunt in ALaska would be a lot of fun. Has anyone done a self guided hunt like thos before? What are some of the logistic that will need to be figured out? Is there an option to drive up and then rent a boat to travel around the Islands or do you have to fly into Prince of Wales before you rent the boat? What else should I look out for or need to plan for?
Doing some looking it seems like as a non resident you apply for a tag to some of the different areas or hope there are left over tags and buy one after the draw.

You apply now for 2021 spring. App period is now through Dec 15.
You can ferry a rig to Ketchikan from Prince Rupert or Bellingham and then over to the island.
Or you can fly up and rent a rig/boat/cabin from a few different outfits. Hollis Adventure Rentals, an outfit in Coffman cove, and one in Thorn bay.
You can rent Forest service cabins as well. Or just camp.
