Title: Disabled vet needs help in Packwood/randle area
Post by: Screwtape5981 on November 08, 2019, 10:35:38 AM
I am a disabled veteran in Packwood area for a while to hunt elk.Long story short,i managed to locate bulls but they are just too far for me to physically make it there and back.
I am hoping to find someone that willing to let a disabled vet hunt their land.Im am experienced hunter,Not looking for a trophy just a legal elk.Just need meat.
It's very Fustrating to have put in days, know where to go and not be able to physically do it without putting myself in a potentially dangerous situation.
This is a just a hail Mary at this point, not something usually ask of anyone.I would greatly appreciate it,I do have assistance with processing and loading the meat.
Thanks

When I came off the mountain the other day from my elk hunt we had a meal at the tavern in Packwood and a couple of regulars there were talking about a 5x5 and 6x6 on their land that week.   I forget the gentleman's names though.   Perhaps try visiting a few of the establishments there and asking around, and perhaps one of them can get you on an elk on their property.   If it's legal to shoot (not too close to other properties), I think you may have a chance at getting permission as a disabled vet from most folks in that area.

Sorry I don't own land there so can't help otherwise.

Were the bulls you located close enough to shoot, and would you just need help with the recovery, or are the simply to far away for you to get to a position you could shoot from?

A little bit of both as far as not being able to get into position and realizing if I expended the energy to do so we would likely have a real problem with meat recovery and choose to back out and save the energy.I can take a lot of abuse,if we did have some extra hands it would definitely help open some options up and I would be extremely grateful.definately share some meat for help.

Maybe you point someone in the direction of the elk that you found in exchange for part of the meat if they are successful.

Be more than happy to pass on info about the 5 point and 6 point bulls for chance at a rag horn on private....always happy to share meat with anyone that helps for sure.

Exchanging meat for info would probably be difficult.....I can't give up a shared area under those circumstances and hope it happens before I have to leave. If I were local that would be a consideration for the right hunter
