I'm clicking on the MT site every day waiting for our results to come back. We're about as far from existing CWD cases as you can get, but it jumps around and you never know.
Anyone get a positive?
Would you eat meat from a positive CWD animal or throw it away?
I've eaten two meals but would chuck the rest - I realize that theory has a few holes though. We ate tenderloins dinner night of the kill and I frankly forgot about CWD.

We have our CO deer tested and never personally had a positive or anyone in our group. I just filled out a lengthy survey for CPW about CWD and its perception among hunters. Personally, if I ever got a positive, I'm probably still eating it. Could just be big talk and when it came down to it I'd pitch it but for now I'm saying I'd still eat it :chuckle:

We couldnt get ours tested and we were in the heart of the cwd area in MT. We processed in the field so when we called they had nothing to test or at least that's how they made it sound. Testing wasnt mandatory it was more informational for us if we wanted to know. Not sure what I would have done if we would have found out.

You can pull the glands out and either drop them off in Bozeman or mail them in. They have directions and videos online, it was easier to find them than I thought it was going to be.

Positive whitetail in Wyoming last year, I turned the meat in to WDFW when I got the positive test back. Personally, until a lot more info is known about cwd I will not eat it or feed it to my family. Went back to the same place in Wyoming this year, but for antelope, not deer. This is going to be harder to do as it spreads, but for now I’m not going to hunt in cwd areas because I don’t want to kill another animal that i won’t eat, not a good feeling.

If I knew for sure it was infected I wouldn't eat it. If I ate it and found out later it was infected I wouldn't be overly concerned.

How many Deer have people already ate before CWD was as big a issue as it is ? I've had the 2 out of the last 3 years Montana Deer tested , both negative.

Well, our tests came back fine so if I tip over tomorrow it won't be from the three deer meals I've eaten.
I can't help but think the days of deer hunting are limited, it seems there is no hope of keeping it from spreading other than eradication.

I'd throw it away. I think there's a good chance cwd is the end of deer hunting if no-one can figure out how to beat it.

I have never had one tested, but having eaten about 30 deer from the highest prevalence endemic area in Wyoming, plus a handful of elk from the same area, statistically I've eaten at least 9. If anyone does get a positive and is going to throw away well cared for meat, I would take it.

As the current number of people who have transmitted cwd from deer meat is ZERO across how many thousands of times guys have eaten infected deer. I would certainly eat it. Until something changes.
