Title: UTV access on the East side of the Olympic Peninsula?
Post by: Reginald Buckingham III on December 30, 2019, 04:31:55 PM
The ATV/UTV county map says I'm good to go there.  I'm just wondering if access from the lumber barons would be required West of 101?
4x4 roads would be cool too.

Do some more homework.  It isn't so simple.  Every where seems to have changes and rules.  Street legal kits installed?  Insurance?  Inspection and altered title stating on road use allowed, forest service districts not all allowed.  etc etc.  I have 2 utv.  1 is legal and other almost ready for inspection $50 and trip to dol, more $.  I need get mirrors on it.

Let’s just say not much , except for designated ORV areas like Tahuya state forest
If it’s gated , it’s closed
National forest same same

Other than state land maybe. Nothing on forest service land on the Olympic penisula.  I was told by a retired gane warden that state land/DNR if it is not gated or closed and is 35 MPH or under that you can drive on it if it is street legal.

The  map for Okanogan county is a little misleading, Although the county has opened a lot of roads to ATV/UTV use. There are  2 municipalities Winthrop and Twisp (the only 2 in all Okanogan County) that prohibit their use on their streets regardless of the ATV/UTV being licensed by the state and the Methow Ranger District Travel Plan as Printed authorizes ATV if licensed for use on streets and roads HOWEVER someone in the District is doing pen and ink changes prohibiting them. Many here believe it is Gravey Davey
Those of us that live locally and have Licensed street legal Vehicles question the legality of the pen and ink changes of a published Government document.
The Tonasket District allows, the Ellensburg district allows.
For clarification as to what state allows visit RCW 46.09.455
Basically any road with a speed limit 35 and under as long as it is licensed for off road and on road

Been a dozen years or so, but the DNR guy told me from his own lips that if you can get past the gate without damaging anything you're ok. Motorcycles, atv's etc. (Obviously, on DNR land.) But don't quote me! He may have been about to retire and was leaving a gag for his coworkers, I don't know.
