Title: Question
Post by: Greyhound on January 03, 2020, 05:53:43 PM
How long will dried skins keep?  I have some muskrat and was thinking about just hanging on to them to either try tanning or adding them to what I get next year.

They could last for a while as long as there is no moisture but the main problem is bugs. I lost several beaver furs because I let them hang on my wall for a few months after season and during that time moths ate up huge patches of fur. I've since wrapped them in a plastic garbage bags and tossed them in my freezer. You made need to dry them again for a day or two when you decide to take them out of the freezer but at least they won't be destroyed.  :twocents:
