I've been out/sidelined with an elbow injury but was curious if people are still going out fishing during all the C19 stuff?
No 'shelter in place' issued yet but what say you?
If I am the only one in my truck, drive straight to the lake, am the only one on my boat and then drive straight home, I should be good right? No protesters? Rock throwers? Won't get pulled over for unnecessary travel? :dunno:
-
As far as I can tell theres no restrictions on fishing, traveling, hiking etc as long as its in a group of less than 50.. Im hoping theres a couple day buffer if they issue a shelter in place to get things wrapped up with work but who knows

Again, leave alone, fish alone, stop for nothing, return home. I just don't see a problem right now unless they make the SIP order. Just don't want to run into closed access.
-
I was hoping to get out and catch some of those "muddy, icky, crab bait planted trout" at Dalton lk. this week but a discovery of mouse damage to the wires under the hood of one of my vehicles has me thinking more about that >:( What a mess.
I'd like to get out on the Snake above or below Munumental now that its clearing up and hit a few spots. Never really fished it this time of year and curious if i could get anything to bite.
Id like to fish the inlet at Soda lake now that the irrigation water is flowing.
-
Fishing in groups of 50 or more, that rules out Steelhead on the Snoqualmie or Sky or chum on the Puyallup! :chuckle:
-
I've been fishing about every other day. By myself. Don't go on the weekend or there will be 50 or more go by in boats about every 2 hours.
-
I'm stuck working from home, but my husband is out fishing right now. The flow on the Snake looks a lot better, hopefully it has cleared up since the last time we checked and it was very murky. The Yakima is still poor visibility.

I agree. The problem is if we stop for gas, stop for bait, stop for twinkees and then pick up a few buddies before we get to the lake. We have to think in terms of absolutely limiting the human to human interaction, not activities or artificial numbers (groups of 10, groups of 50).

None of which exist anymore, so...

Just go fishing!

Pretty easy to "Social Distance" out there.

Fix for mice under the hood: Take an old sock and fill it with moth balls, then tie it somewhere under the hood......mice won't come near it!

Fairly busy on Waitts Lk

Fish on

Thanks for the input! Talked to a ranger on the phone today and he said everything is open until a SIP is issued and that it actually been pretty busy!
Sounds like a green light situation to me!

My youngest son and I fished a few hours this evening. Not much action but it got us out of the house.

Wife just mentioned this this am suggesting I be careful. Been fishing a local pond. Stay as far away from everyone as possible. one day it was so packed I turned around and came home. Just hosed my clothes with sawers this am so I can get to where others wont go due to ticks. Wish my boat was running.

Bank or boat? We only got one from the bank, but it was a beautiful day to be there and no one around.
-
COVID hasn't stopped fishermen on Offut lake it seems. Boat launch has had at least a few trailers every afternoon for a week!
-
Thinking about heading out, the kids want to take the canoe and I'm thinking about either bank or firing up the boat for the year. It may be time to troll for the Lake Stevens monster in the next couple of days.
-
Walla Walla river is still a bust. Trout fishing today was good. I caught a beautiful 1.8 lb rainbow.
-
The Smallie fishing on Banks today was great, caught a lot of fish on grubs and blade baits in 15 to 30 feet. Fished blade baits in 25 to 35 feet and caught a few big Walleye. Heading back tomorrow and Saturday

Nice! My favorite WA lake.

I fished for bottom fish out of Westport earlier in the week. It was pretty good: for the video about our trip and going over the westport bar.
-
Go every chance I get, on vacation for a couple more days, took the time off to fish a tournament but it got canceled. I still went fishing, and from what I have seen, it hasn't kept anyone off the water.
-
went out Thurs - Sat last week. You wouldn't know anything was different. If anything the weekdays have been busier than usual
-
Wonder how much of it will stop now? State Parks are closed and I bet WDFW access site are soon to follow?! :bash:
-
they still cant stop you from going fishing

Good luck with that if you decide to go clamming and tell law enforcement to go pound sand when they politely ask you to leave the beach.
SOUTH BEND — On Sunday, March 22, Pacific County Health Officer Dr. Steven Krager ordered the closure of all beach approaches and hospitality lodging businesses in Pacific County.
The order does not apply to people who have resided in the lodging since March 17.
The City of Long Beach ordered its three beach approaches closed at 6 a.m. on Sunday, March 22. Mayor Jerry Phillips said the city was hit hard by tourists this weekend, which made it difficult to enforce social distancing in downtown Long Beach.
On March 19, the county also cancelled a clam dig set to begin on March 20.
Violation of or failure to comply with the order could result in; a misdemeanor punishable by a fine, imprisonment up to ninety days, or both. The Pacific County Sheriff's Office and other law enforcement agencies are empowered to enforce the order.

I am not talking about a closed clamming season, lakes, river, ocean whatever may be open have it.
-
Weed stores are still open for business. Distributing Budweiser is an essential service.
I'm drawing my own conclusions while personally continuing to minimize interactions and maintaining distances
-
Caught, and released eight fish today on the way home from buying fuel oil and some groceries in town. I'll keep fishing when I feel like it, thank you.... Unfortunately, I did not get to eat fresh Greenling for dinner.
-
Went today to one of our local ponds. Only 3 of us on the pond and not one bite that I saw. I wont fish it if I can't keep distance from others. The other day I thought I was safe where I was until this family with a large suv pulled up and two adults with 5 kids pulled up, got out and swarmed me, non of which talked English. I left. Not trying to be racist but are they not getting the message? Not only was it rude, but I had made an effort to be away from others. A lot of folks were bringing their kids out to the fishing hole and crowding each other.

Not anymore....

WDFW closes recreational fishing statewide in wake of governor's order to 'Stay Home, Stay Healthy' in response to COVID-19
OLYMPIA – The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) today announced its decision to temporarily close recreational fishing and shellfishing statewide in the wake of Washington Gov. Jay Inslee's order directing Washingtonians to stay home and stay healthy to limit the spread of coronavirus/COVID-19.
The closures will begin at midnight Wednesday, March 25 and last until at least 5 p.m. on April 8, 2020. WDFW will re-evaluate on April 6 whether the closure may need to be extended.
"This is not a decision we take lightly, but it's the right thing to do for the health and well-being of Washington's families," said WDFW Director Kelly Susewind. "Monday's extraordinary order for the residents of our state to stay home requires all of us to work together to ensure these measures have the intended effect."
Fishery managers have reported that some anglers have been seen crowding banks as concerns over coronavirus have continued.
"We've seen an uptick in outdoor recreation at some locations in recent weeks as people have looked for ways to get outside," said WDFW Fish Program Director Kelly Cunningham. "We've had reports of crowded boat ramps and busy fishing on some rivers, which runs counter to the governor's direction to stay home and practice social distancing."
In addition, many salmon and steelhead fisheries require regular monitoring under the Endangered Species Act (ESA), which includes conducting angler interviews at access sites surrounding the state's marine waters. The on-site, face-to-face nature of angler interviews puts people at potential risk of transmitting the coronavirus. Without such monitoring, these recreational fisheries must close to ensure ESA protections.
WDFW and other state agencies previously closed all of their water access sites, including boat launches, and other public lands where people may gather. Local and tribal governments are taking similar actions across Washington.
WDFW Enforcement officers remain on duty and will be enforcing these new closures.
The lowland lakes opening day for trout remains scheduled for April 25, but will be evaluated depending on whether the governor's "Stay Home, Stay Healthy" order might be further extended.
For the latest updates on WDFW's coronavirus response, please visit https://wdfw.wa.gov/about/covid-19-updates. Updates to openings and closures will be posted to that page. For the latest information on the statewide response to this pandemic, visit https://coronavirus.wa.gov/.
The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife is the state agency tasked with preserving, protecting, and perpetuating fish, wildlife, and ecosystems, while providing sustainable fishing, hunting, and other recreation opportunities.

There are three fishing groups, this covers one. The other two may close but it isn’t across the board as of the announcement.

I didn’t realize this thread was covering the other 2 user groups. My bad.
-
No worries, I’m glad WDFW found a way to protect the ESA stocks without a full closure.
In my opinion, shut everything for two weeks and be done with it. Buy your grub, take care of your neighbors and hunker down.

The other 2 would be considered food industry, don't count on them closing.

i agree with everyone this sucks, but, it was inevitable.
Problem is everyone looking for the damn gray area and how they could be exempt and still go fishing
"but my boats gassed up already" "but I already have tackle"
people don't understand THEIR impact, all they think about is their own personal gratification.
just be glad this s storm isnt going on during the summer king season, or hali season.
take some time, go over your gear, fix your boat and trailer wiring, and spend some damn time with your family at home.
-
You honestly think this won't go past these dates? That's naive.

never said that.
i'm trying to be optimistic about dealing with the situation. it blows.
i wont turn this political, all im saying is we're at where we are..so now we have to deal with it.
what's frustrating to me is how everyone thinks that they can do whatever the hell they want and ignore guidance or regulations because they don't see the impacts they have.
you are in a unique situation, you can hop on your boat from your home and fish with basically zero human interaction, out of your own backyard.
the problem are the people who are now off from work, who want to go to their favorite river spot 60 miles away, or go to the coast and go fishing, or tote their kids down to the local lake along with 15 other families with the same idea.
ive been kicked in the nuts by WDFW and i'm sure itll happen again (likely soon)

It’s not the people looking for a grey area to go fish that’s the problem, it’s the millions still working and hitting the stores and gas stations that will continue the spread. I think for the most part people are just complaining about the closure, they aren’t actually going fishing.
-

My question is then, not to you specifically but in general, why is the anger towards the fishing closure and not all the other stuff still open?

I think that is the most frustration, It’s been said. It’s the low hanging fruit that will change the least. A lot more need me to be shut down to get the spread slowed down.

Every time I have brought that up I've been hit with a barrage of excuses for why our entire 7.5 million population should be able to continue to purchase non-essentials (or essential by choice) virtually at will, regardless of how many face-to-face contacts the retail sales and associated supply-chains generate. The general attitude seems highly myopic because Inslee claims it's essential.
-
Hell, most of the places I’d be fishing this time of year got shut down by emergency rule this year anyhow, under far more suspicious circumstances than a public health crisis.
Took a drive out to the skookumchuck last week and there were at least half a dozen rigs parked along the river by the hatchery, even saw a guy decked out in his gear walking down to the water, rod in hand. Probably ignorance of the rules more than anything at that point though.
-
Nope.... :chuckle:
20" female full of eggs. Last fish after seven shorty lings. A half hour of fishing didn't get me any Greenling for dinner.

Now that unemployment will be shored up, those should be shut down too. All grocery should be curbside, stuff like florists and coffee shops should be closed.
The goal should be for everyone to see how close to 0 interactions we can have in the next 15 days.
-
Catching dinner while hanging out alone (or with a household family member) on the ice or in a canoe would have much less impact on the spread than these people driving to the store to buy dinner alongside a crowd of other strangers.
This blanket closure could have been more thought out and targeted. :twocents:
-
WDFW doesn't do 'thought out', they do 'take the money and run'. :pee:
