Title: .300 Blackout pistol legal for deer?
Post by: swanderek on March 28, 2020, 07:48:23 AM
So I have a 10.5 inch barrel Blackout. I know as a rifle ( 16 inch barrel) it is legal.
However, mine is in the “pistol” format with a shockwave brace ( no sbr fees)

Know since it is a “pistol” can I hunt deer with it? In the regs it says all pistols need to be .40 cal and above.
Thoughts...

Think there is something in there about centerfire rifle cartridges in handguns, therefore .24 caliber minimum.  Otherwise it would make many Contenders illegal. :twocents:

Handguns are only required to be .24 or larger and have a minimum of a 4" barrel, that info is on page 91 of the hunting regs. Your Blackout pistol will be fine.

If you're going to hunt with a 300 blackout I'd suggest looking at super sonic loads and staying clear of the subsonic stuff.

You may be thinking of firearm restriction areas, where it would not be legal.

(d) Modern firearm tag holders may hunt during established modern firearm seasons with bows and arrows; crossbows; muzzleloaders; revolver-type handguns; semiautomatic handguns of .40 (10 mm) caliber or larger; or shotguns, so long as the equipment and ammunition complies with department rules.

Interesting.
Good to know my pistol is legal.
I have always used my 6.8 or .308 for deer.
But something nice about a light weapon to hunt and add a new challenge.

 :yeah:

That's why I built a 458 SOCOM pistol.
