My 10 year old son is finishing up his Hunter Safety this summer and I hope to take him to Idaho so he can at least see some deer (can't find any in Western WA!). I want him to have a fun hunt and get some action; not slog up and down the hills around here, seeing nothing and getting frustrated.
Does anyone have a recommendation for a Unit or area to go in the western part of the state that is OTC General Deer where we can go and get into some animals? Not looking for any specific honey-holes, just some general advice. We can both cover some ground and are used to hunting several miles from the truck on foot, but not looking to get way into the back-country. BTW... I got him a compact Savage 7mm-08 that is a super fun little rifle!
Thanks in advance for any help!

Whitetail hunting is good for the youth, you can shoot either sex if it comes down to it. Unit 10a has whitetail all through it. Pick areas with good deer activity and sitting in the mornings or evenings would probably be your best bet for a good shot opportunity with a 10 year old. Heck its probably your best bet at any age. Good luck with what ever you decide.
