Title: DIFFERENCE IN RELOADING DIES
Post by: Coasthunterjay on April 13, 2009, 12:50:28 PM: kind of interested, been told there is alot of difference in the dies you get for reloading and figured theres others that would like to know also..... :dunno:

I've been reloading for less than a year(so take my information at face value) and a gentleman(reloaded for 12 years) I know showed me two sizing dies from Lee that were a different inside diameter(used 2 different calipers to check them). I now have 8 sets of RCBS dies and I haven't had an issue yet, for the price I feel they're the best you can get. My :twocents:

Post by: JoshT on April 13, 2009, 04:47:45 PM: I've been using Lee Collet dies almost exclusively for about 10 years... they load consistently more accurate ammo than any other maker (IME). I wish I could get some for the .300 RUM... it would make my life much easier. Those who bash on the collet die... usually aren't using them correctly. Don't know about the Lee FL dies... never used them... but I much prefer the Redding FL dies to the RCBS.

Post by: sisu on April 13, 2009, 09:06:27 PM: RCBS, never tried any others. I personally believe it's not so much the dies but your technique.(are you very picky about the grains of powder, case length, same primer and bullet every time etc.)

Having reloaded for that round, I picked up a few things along the way.

The resizer die in the redding and hornady dies changes the shoulder of the brass too much. I find that I trim A LOT more often when I use the redding die and hornady die. I would not reccomend it.

The die that worked best for case life was the RCBS F/L sizer die. Hands down.

Having said all that, if you still want a resizer die, I have a couple hornady ones for sale.

Their carbide pistol dies incl factory crimp are very good.
I think some people bash Lee because they're less expensive, but seem to work well and their CS is very good.
I also have RCBS, and they work great...will probably buy their small base dies for my AR.

Post by: Coasthunterjay on April 14, 2009, 07:35:25 PM: Yah thanks guys....no this isnt for my weatherby, i got RCBS for my weatherby....had some RCBS for my 270 but they since have rusted and so i threw em away....kind of sucks, but out they went. So know i need some new ones.

But my 270 i was thinking of going Lee....the one with the extra factory crimp die? Didnt really know much about that, and the gentleman at the gun store said it was a nice future to have, but ive never used it before and was wondering what the big difference with having that crimp over just the regular die crimp....or whatever its called....
