I'm looking for some information on this unit. I know its owned by Green Diamond and in order to hunt i will need to pay and get a permit. Anyone know if this area is any good for deer? Also is there alot of people out in this area? I'm curious about it before I spend the $125 for the permit. I'm just wondering if its worth it. I plan on muzzleloading this coming season. Thanks in advance.

Deer or Elk or both?

There are worse areas for sure. 651 has a fairly high density of blacktails compared to many other units. Is the $125 permit for walk in only?

The $125 is only for walk in. They have permits for driving on the land but they sell out of those quickly as they only have so many. I'm just trying to find an area with less hunters. I realize I will more than likely run into a few but hopefully becuase its a gated area with permit access only it won't draw as many hunters. Thanks for the replies.

I live here and yeah there are a handful of deer around but as far as spending your time around here there is one thing I can promise is your going to run into a lot more people then you will probably want to. Green diamond has ruined a lot of opportunity for people over the last 5 or 6 years. You’ll be walk-in in and it’s inevitable there are going to be quads rolling around and more than likely a Toyota or two. As a Blacktail hunter yes you can more than likely kill a deer if you put the time in. If you do it don’t let the b.s. stop ya from having a good time. Times have changed for the worst around here buddy.

The Hunting Prospects page on WDFW typically show graphs that indicate hunter numbers in each GMU, but this year the information published by the district 15 biologist is poor. https://wdfw.wa.gov/sites/default/files/publications/02103/district_15_hunting_prospects_2019.pdf
You could try to look at 2018/19 reports, which I believed were much better.
I've never hunted there, but I know it used to be pretty popular. Next best bet is to use the search function for Satsop and do some reading. The report that came in while I was typing this is telling enough. Most of the pay to access lands seem to have pretty high traffic.
Good luck!
