Just curious if anyone has info on road conditions, placed to start, stay, etc in Unit 37 during the late season...we will stay in a motel in Challis (again, anyone with a review of accommodations/recommendations?) I see the unit is 90% public, but I am curious about the elk population and wintering areas, as it is mostly BLM scrub land next to hay fields and cattle ranches. My 14 year old son drew the Youth cow tag for Nov. 10 - Dec. 31.
I've hunted Idaho a lot (lived there for awhile too) but just curious about Unit 37 access areas and elk...I am sure we will find them, as it seems like a high success hunt (IDFG actually wants the youth to be successful!!!) and yes, I will check with the bio, and locals that I can reach out to...just wondering if anyone on here has some info they are willing to share.

If there's any sort of weather I'd be planning on hitting that BLM ground bordering the AG. Idaho has a few tags like this and they're almost always better once you've got snow taking hold in the steep stuff and the elk become highly concentrated next to/on farmers fields.

Sounds like you already are but a definite hunt the blm and any other public up against the alfalfa fields they are moving off and on the fields all year long. no need for snow they are next to fields right now. Will bed on public and move to fields ever day

I'll be hunting this unit for the early rifle elk hunt starting October 1st. Looks like awesome country, I can't wait to go hike around and try to find a good one.
