Hey everyone another deer baiting question .
Just wondering if attractent made for whitetails would work for blacktails?
Thank you ahead of time for info

I assume it would but then again I fully believe God put the gray ghost here to confound and annoy us. Go get em!

I have use it with some luck but seams sweet smelling stuff or apple concentrate seems to be better

Thanks @millerwheeler
@h20hunter I agree 😆

Ive tried it a few times, wasnt impressed as a stand alone attractant, so I ended up mixing corn and sweet cob in a 5 gal bucket then pouring some Big and J in with it and spread it out over a large area and of course didnt notice any difference from just corn and cobb, but its smell first that gets them to come in. I never use just one attractant, and I also use scent in same areas. Once you have some does hanging out, shift your attention a bit farther away as the better bucks will just stand in the brush and watch the does. If young impatient bucks is your target, keep watching the does as the young guys have to jump the gun hoping to get lucky.

Not worth the money. I dont know on blacktails but for whitetail and muley you can get corn grain cob or garbs for much cheaper and have the same results

Save yourself the money and hit up a local orchard for their seconds, or buy some sweet cob at the feed store. Any "deer attractant" is just a marketing gimmick tricking people into spending a bunch of extra money for nothin. Like the 12 lb trophy rocks for $20, or the 50lb trace mineral blocks for $8 at the feed store. Same stuff, but like 1/8th the price because its not a "deer attractant"

Big and J does work on blacktails. But a bag of wild bird seed mix works better. and less expensive.

Thanks guys

On our property, we have about a half dozen bird feeders out. The Blacktails are worse than the squirrels when it comes to getting in the feeders.

To my knowledge, all urine attractants are taken from WT stock, even if they are labeled as Blacktail urine (Moccasin Joe's).
There are plenty of stories on the web by hunters who had bucks come straight in to smell a scented wick (or follow a drag rag trail).
I believe they could work if they are taken from a hot doe and packaged in an airtight container (Tinks etc.). Once they are exposed to air, the urea urine in breaks down to ammonia and smells like old pee. Whether or not any of the 20 distinct compounds in estrus urine that are related to pheromones and scent survive is probably unlikely beyond just a few hours or so. I would guess that most of the stuff on the market is just junk.
Here's a simple discussion of some of the chemistry involved, written in a layperson type style.
