Wyoming is beautiful state with endless hunting and fishing opportunities. After not being able to participate in activities I would normally do early in the year, I was so looking forward to this trip. Here is a pic of the Clarks Fork near Cody. Definitely need to go back for some summer fishing someday.
After completing a 1000 mile drive, I immediately began hunting the next day. The weather was hot and dry and not the best deer hunting conditions. It would start out cool and get into the low 80s. The drought conditions made it way too hot and dusty for me and deer hunting. I was honestly worried if I brought enough water with me for the days hunt and worried about getting dehydrated.
By the end of the first morning, I spotted 4 bucks one of which was a tall nice 4x4 with deep back forks and nice eye guards but not very wide. I didn’t see any other bucks that first day, but elk were everywhere. I stopped counting at over 100 in several small herds! I saw over a dozen bulls! Three of which were within 300 yards or less all 5-6 point mature bulls. The unit takes almost max points to draw and I am currently at one point, so I was just a window shopper.
On the morning of the second day, I had decided that if I saw the 4x4 again I would try to take him. Nothing was spotted the first hour and I was wondering where all the game had gone from the day before. Then there they were all 4 bucks together on a small ridge above the creek bottom we were in. I verified the 4x4 from the day before was in the group and maneuvered to get within 250 yards. After the shot, a distinct “whack” told me the bullet found its target.
As I walked up to my deer his other three buddies hung around for a couple of minutes and let me snap a couple of pics. Hoping the tag gods are good to me in the future so I can experience these wonderful hunting opportunities while they are still here. :brew:

That is a really nice deer! I was able to hunt elk in 62 a couple years ago and rode by the greyback river for miles. The country is amazing, so beautiful. Wyoming is definitely a place to look at for retirement but you have to like the cold and snow. Love your pics, congrats on a nice buck! Good luck in the elk draws, it takes many years, took me 13 points to draw.
