Title: Ocean beaches closed
Post by: ballpark on October 27, 2020, 04:10:15 PM: How is it possible that Oregon beaches are safe for clamming but Washington are not
Oregon shows the test results but Washington doesn’t. Governor doesn’t want people out and about. :bash:

I had reservations for a double dip digger weekend, total bummer but much better than keeling over dead from bad clams.

Plus, the mob isn't smart enough to know which beach is closed and which is open.

To avoid concentrating clam diggers and disproportionately increasing the risk of COVID-19, razor clam beaches are closed statewide--though only Long Beach clams exceeded safe concentrations of domoic acid levels so far.

Sometimes I think WDFW undeservedly gets criticized...but this decision I find really confusing.

Digging for clams on a huge open and windy beach has to be one of the COVID safest activities people can do these days.

Almost all summer every beach and lake was open and packed. Some stores closed, some open. It should be much more consistent and across the board and they would have better compliance. No transparency, no consistency.

I wonder if this was the county like the last time or the state. I could accept the county making the call, but not the state.
