11/5/2020. it been 60 deg here in Chelan since 5 am. we have had alot of rain and now high winds. went out grade creek road tuesday evening. made it up to nelson butte with only seeing a little snow in the shaded areas. saw one grouse, and one big ram. not one deer till i was back in mitchell creek just at dark. a loan doe. the early snow is all but gone. we are supposed to cool with the snow level coming down to 3000ft but the next chance of snow on the forecast is not till tuesday. then it only shows 30 to 35% the rest of the week.

Not what i wanted to hear as we are heading over there tonight for my wife's hunt.  We only have three days to make it happen as we are heading to Montana on Wednesday.  We won't be to picky for her though, if she ends up getting one it will be her first deer.

I will try and post before we leave for Montana.  My buddies who were over there the last weekend of the season said the roads were pretty icy.  Hopefully they thawed out by now.

If it snows hard (we had several inches in 2016 when we had the late tag) be extremely careful driving the lower road.

I decided I was pushing all the way to South Navarre Campground in the Silverado 2500 and about went skydiving off the road a few times. The back stretch climbing into the campground was almost pure ice with no turnarounds. Would not recommend...

Sounds like it’s starting to get better . Looks like it could get some good snow all week up high and in town possibly

There's at least a bunch of big Doug firs right off the downhill side of the road there that would catch you before you slid all the way down!  :chuckle:

True, might only make it 1,000' down instead of clear to the bottom!

So we were over there this weekend for my wife's tag & all the roads were fine.  That could obviously change with the up coming weather.  She ended up shooting a decent two point, her first deer ever.  She missed on a couple three points.  The bigger bucks weren't real rutty yet, the few bucks we did see were on the smaller side.  Wind was blowing pretty good most of the time as well 15-25 mph i would guess.  Good luck to the reaming tag holders, now off to Montana!

Good luck in Montana
How is the upper road?

We didn't venture up to far as she didn't want to hike after a deer.  When we were there it was just a little trace amounts here and there but looking at the weather report it's about to change!

Yeah lower road . It also has a good size rock on it that probably can’t get around in a truck around grade creek

With the snow and rocks on grade, and buck numbers, best off spending time else where. My  :twocents:
