Title: 49 degrees north OIL
Post by: Mjensen on November 07, 2020, 10:01:39 AM
We went to Tacoma creek, were a Elk Hunter told me he had seen a good Bull, when we got to the gate and another hunter was already there. We moved up the road Towards Cailspel Mt. We stopped glassed and moved on, stopped, glassed and moved on. We continued to do this through out the morning. We where near the top when my son found a Moose bedded down in the snow. We could only see the hind end. We were sure it was a Bull. We made a plan to make a stock, but it stood up and started feeding. It was a Cow and she had a collar.

We went up the road and continued to glass the hillsides, my buddy that was with me felt that all the Moose had moved down the Mt. I reassured him that the people on this forum have stated the moose don't  care about snow or elevation. I wanted to walk into the area we had seen the cow.

We walked down an over grown logging road. To my surprise there was a good Bull bedded in the road we were on. He stood up and I was given the range. He was facing me straight on and I gave him one in the chest. He turned and went straight up hill towards the main road. We ran up the road to cut him off, when we turned the corner onto the main road, there he was, standing broadside at 265 yards, he wasn't feeling good. I put another one in him, got the lungs and top of the heart. He went down and my heart was pounding, I was shaking and I known my hunt was over.

I was glad my youngest son came out from Missouri to be with me, my oldest was with us for the weekend, but had to get back to kids, wife and work, my dear friend was with us and was eager to get the Moose quartered and loaded up. What a hunt and memories. I want to Thank everyone on this forum, for there advice and knowledge.

Congrats! Awesome bull. Way to go with your gut. I’ve always been told the moose stay close to the roads once the snow falls.

Awesome Bull! "what a hunt and memories" - says it all.  The only day I hunted with someone was the day I shot my bull and reflecting back on it I am so blessed to have the memory of looking at my spotter following the shot to see him smiling and congratulating me on my first bull moose kill.  I can only hope that someday I can return favor for someone out there doing it alone.  Thanks for sharing.
