Title: Took my first Bobcat!
Post by: bsharp on November 27, 2020, 05:11:09 PM: Over in Okanogan County hunting this weekend. Had this bobcat come into my Ecall about 1/2 hour into the stand. I was playing a jack rabbit in distress. I couldn't believe it when I saw it. I'm really new to predator hunting and have decided that I'm eventually going to take a lion. This was great practice!! So much fun!

Gotta be the hardest critter to call in and kill. Hoping ill get one someday. Hunted an area with a ton of bob tracks yesterday. Ill be spending more time calling there this winter. Only aware of one bob that ive ever called in and the sucker busted me. Didnt even know it until after the fact when i cut his tracks in the fresh snow. He made a beeline for me, snuck into a clump of brush, busted me and left without me ever knowing he was there.

Shot him with a 243 which was definitely overkill. Wish I had taken him with a smaller round. Hopefully the taxidermist can salvage him.

Really wanted to rug him but told my taxi it was probably a loss. He said bring it in, checked it out, hey no problem. Hell of a messy exit wound but wasnt an issue. You may be surprised.

If there isn't any leather missing it's very easy to do. Look up coon creek outdoors on youtube he has a vid sewing up a coyote he should shot with a 12ga slug. Hole big enough to fit your arm through and once stitched and dried it went to market with the rest and many would be non the wiser nice little cat there :tup:

Took in a Bobcat shot with a .270 and had a rug made if you know where to look and get close you can kinda see the fix, but standing a little bit back cannot.

Went out looking for a lion this morning. Nice time in nature but no kitties.

My first two kills with my Lucky Duck Revolt seemed very easy. I'm sure that it isn't always like that. I'll take it though. Now I need to see a Cougar!! :-)

Ive never called in a predator other than an owl with an ecaller. But same expierence last year with an open reed howler first time i tried to call in a yote with yote vocalizations. Made one howl, dog came running in a minute later, boom, done. I thought man, that was easy, i shoulda been doing this years ago! Nope. Followed it up with dry set after dry set. Nothing like beginners luck to give a guy a false sense of confidence.

Opening morning had a bob walk right through our little ravine we watch (stellar jay chased him up and over the hill) we elected not to shoot as the boy had a .270 and I had my .257 mag figuring too much damage we let it walk hoping to call it in over Christmas. Buddy sitting in deer stand for late archery saw two in same ravine Thursday morning. I bet we never see one but cool to think we could.

Okanogan County is where I grew up and mostly where I hunt. I know that they are around but usually they are hard to see. I think that there's just a lot of cats in the woods but they tend to be hidden. Bringing one to a call is an amazing thing. Imagine seeing a Cougar walk up to one.
