Title: Seattle area gunsmith / rechamber
Post by: fly-by on January 06, 2021, 10:58:26 AM
Just picked up a 30-30 Contender with a 21" tapered barrel. In my rush to obtain dies I mistakenly ordered 30-30 AI.  I think this is a sign that I'm supposed to get it rechambered.  Prefer to have it done locally.  Any suggestions?

You’ll need to call around and find someone that has that reamer.  Not a very popular chambering.  I would save the hassle and just get the right dies.

I was joking about building a rifle around a $50 die set, but  after reading up it seems to be worth about 10% more capacity.  I ordered a regular sizing die and will shoot it as is for now but will likely end up opening it up. Seems to be a popular conversion with the Contender crowd.
