I've started researching ladder stands to permanently install on private property. There are some nice looking systems out there but I am not so sure these mesh seats are what I want. They look comfortable but not particularly durable. I'd hate to have the seat rip 5 years later in the middle of my hunting season. A padded metal bench seems more appropriate for my use.
What's your experience / recommendation? Had any long term experience with mesh seats?

So you looking at all metal stand and seat and go with a removable cushion for sitting on? How tall are you looking for?
-
Never tried the mesh but have a few with metal bench. One thing I would recommend, especially since you don't have to be packing them a bunch is to get an xl or even two man seat if you have the trees for it. The extra space is pretty nice

Any fabric, mesh or otherwise will eventually succumb to uv damage. Only way to extend a seats life is to remove it when not in use for extended periods.
If you leave stands up and havent experienced bear or squirrel chews, plan on it.

Yes. I'd feel more confident in all metal seat. Haven't thought much about height but I'd think over 12' to the deck. Not feeling picky on height yet but I do like vandeman17's suggestion for a two man seat. :)

Is this going to be for rifle hunting ? Well either way, Id get platform as close to 20' as possible, 12' youd be the sitting duck, getting busted more than youd know.

A taller stand can also expand your visibility depending on the type of cover you place it in. And it takes your scent higher from the ground as well.

Ive used climbers with mesh/padded seats as well as a fixed hard seat with a pad. I can sit longer in the mesh ones, i find the more flexible seat the better.

I think this depends. Ive hunted the west side where 12 fett up provided the mist visibility through the salmon berry bushes.
