I was just looking at the map logging roadkill salvage data. See a few deer salvage located in Clark and Cowlitz Co. Is there exceptions to the rule?
Provisions of the new rule.
It is permissible to salvage and transport a deer or elk that is accidentally killed by a motor vehicle collision except for any deer killed by a motor vehicle collision in Clark, Cowlitz, and Wahkiakum counties.

Maybe reported by LEO'S so the meat could be donated?

Op
Cant answer your question.
But on a side note, someone might be able to locate hunting areas to check out based on this data :dunno:

Well it's clear there are none in 105 Kelly Hill. :chuckle: :peep:

Could be either that or people that are reporting in in those areas not aware it isn't legal. I've never reported or taken one, so I don't know if it forces you to enter only the legal counties or you just report wherever and it lets you.
-
Ive reported several and it just asks you to put in an adress or drop a pin on a map. None of mine were remotly near those counties.

Would have expected way more in the San Juans.

Wonder if it is to do with hoof rot/cwd?

People out on the islands dont talk to government... at least the kind that would eat roadkill.

Yes, its because of the Columbia White Tails, guess they figure we can't identify them....?? Still a dead deer!!

Last Spring I saw a fawn get demolished by a semi in Clark County. I pulled over and called fish and wildlife to check how the salvage thing works. I told the officer exactly where I was, and she didn't mention any problems with the county I was in.
I didn't end up taking the deer. The truck had hit it going probably 60 mph...there was just nothing left that was useable.
Just my experience.
edit: where does it say we can't salvage in those counties? I'm having trouble finding it
-
If they are going to ignore it, I feel bad about leaving a doe that I hit. I did stop and clear the road.

Thanks for the map link. Didn't know that existed. Can see my report and location pin.

Hopefully that map can be used to make for safer crossing at some locations. I can see where my brother's salvage tag is pinned but they are off by a few miles unless he gave them bad location data.
-
A bunch of the pinned locations are off quite a bit. If you click on the dot, it will give you the actual information of the animal and where it got hit. Not sure why some are 50-60 miles off.

That makes sense I checked but it was still in the wrong location. Either way, its a great program IMO as long as it doesn't tempt people to poach and then report as salvaged.
