Curious if anyone has ever seen elk above tree line in NE Washington (thinking in the summer scouting or just back packing) where our alpine mountains are few and far between. I never have but also have never looked in such places. Was told by an old timer he used to see it regularly on a few of our bigger peaks back in the day. Just randomly picturing it and thought I'd ask. Would be too neat to happen I'd imagine.

Not Washington, but NE BC. I stopped to look at some mt. goats at a usual spot and while glassing them I saw a brown spot moving and when I focused on it, it was an elk. I have photos I took of the elk feeding close to a goat and the elk was higher on the ridge than the goat. If I can find them I'll post a couple.

That's great, would love to see them!

I've seen them a number of times above 13K ft in Colorado.

Seen them above timberline lots of times in Washington, but not in the NE corner.

Honestly I never have seen elk above tree line in the NE corner, or much sign that they spend much time there.

Yep, down by Mount St. Helens, in the summer you can see elk up on the high ridges bedded down in plain sight.
Not the NE though.
