Finally, will be interesting to see what is being proposed.
-
I don't like how a number of changes are lumped together in one question. There were a number where I opposed some and agree with some in the same questions.

:yeah:

Recommends 1x scopes for muzzleloaders and would allow return of special permits for any reason...I don't like either change. Allowing return of special permits will hurt already dismal draw odds, especially for buck, bull, and antlerless categories.

100%

I'd want to make sure they would reallocate permits that get returned.
-
The language does state they would be reissued.

Disagree and make a comment of why

Completed...thanks for posting the link

Agreed w you, and disagreed on the survey

Some of those questions were a bit shady in the wording.

They have totally changed some wording on a couple proposals now.
-
Definitely have to dig in to the actual proposals to see what they are planning to do and not just read the summary.

Just completed the survey. It's a long one. Lol

Wdfw as well as this survey just disgust me. Ive tried really hard over the years to be objective and fair when it comes to qdfw and game management but ive just had enough! What an embarrassment to WA sportsmen and the North American model of wildlife conservation. SMH

Anything specific in the survey? Or the whole thing in general?

I have much the same opinion as karl. From combining entirely too many changes per question to imo disingenuous summarys its pretty rediculus. I dont remember the exact question but it was one about reduction in otc whitetail doe harvest the summary said that sportsman would get some opportunity back in special permits. I dug into the permit numbers and they propose dropping permits from 150 to 5 for one unit and 350 to 5 for another unit. That is not giving any opportunity back. That is cutting tags but leaving enough to ensure permit app revenue.
Not even to mention that at least in the northern part of gmu 127 they are years behind on reducing doe harvest. Numbers have increased drastically over the last 2 years... :twocents:

The whole youth opportunity disgusts me! There are no good buck or bull hunts anymore. No silver dollar or pine mountain ranch hunts. This is my daughters pine buck and silver dollar bull from this year. She is hooked now because of these hunts.
Found silver dollar in the LHP
-
Thanks for posting, will do my part this evening.
-
Didn't really see the 223 caliber reduction.
So I don't even know what's up with that.
Or the spring grouse or changes to the fall grouse season. :dunno: :dunno: :dunno: :dunno:
Honestly I did it ,left Alot of comments.
It's really a joke, most of that will go through.
No big deal.
This is just to make you feel better ,(That you where part of the process)
😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡
My family has bought less and less each year that trend will continue until I'm down to just a deer tag, then boom off to a different state I go.
-
One cool two point, yeah the youth opportunities in this state are really sad. Future of hunting is not looking good if they lose the younger generation and they are getting harder and harder to get out there.
-

Those hunts look great.
I did tell them in some comments that it's stupid that when permits, tags,ECT need to be reduced its always the youth option that gets cut first .just stupid.

The scopes on muzzies said 1x scope or a red dot sight. I didn't recall that from earlier discussions. Is it too early to ask for a green dot or is that the tech creep we've been warned of?

I would think of if passed the red dot nomenclature would pertain to essentially lighted dot sights. “Red dot” being a type of sight as opposed to a physical attribute of an approved sight.
Still dont want any of it approved tho. 😆

The goat proposals are a real head scratcher.
Apparently the smoke and mirrors secret special ops apply to be a kill group didnt work out so well in the Olympics. :chuckle:
Back to conflict tags again.
And where did all the goats go they where able to relocate. All I see is a reduction in opportunity in the cascades. I think they need better spotters in their "fly" over surveys.... :bash:

I found silver dollar in the LHP program.

If they are flying its probably a one time thing, on a cloudy day. Give me a bottle of water and snickers bar and I will triple their goat counts in the Naches and Bumping....

Prob get flamed for this, but I fricken love the special permit change!!!!!! Return your permit for any reason and get your points back, and then the next guy in line gets that permit!! Bout time!! I know, I know, now my odds will go down.... blah blah, my odds suck either way! Now I can put in for all categories and not worry about losing points on my quality and bull categories!! Love it!

First thing I thought of too!

Done! And you are not kidding it is a long one. Very disappointed with the Moose situation habitat is NOT the only factor with the reduced numbers!

My comments regarding the conflict resolution goat hunt in the Olympics.
I'm writing to you in regards to the potential reinstatement of the conflict goat reduction hunts within the Olympic Mountain range. It is my opinion that should the conflict reduction program be reinstated that tag numbers for the Olympic Mountain range need to drastically increase. Since the department and the NPS have determined that the goats are an invasive species to that ecosystem action(s) should be taken to greatly reduce their (goat) population. In the past WDFW had allocated 6-9 permits for non-tribal hunters for the conflict reduction draw. Past harvest rates were roughly 33%, therefore only 2-3 goats were being removed annually by non-tribal hunters in this program. With a total fertility rate of 6-7%, a population of 100 goats wouldn't be negatively impacted by a harvest of 2-3 animals per year. Given that past surveys had an estimated population of 1000+ goats, the minimal amount of available tags with the low harvest rate was severely inadequate to even qualify as a reduction effort. With the recent efforts of the NPS to relocate and lethally remove significant populations, a more aggressive approach is warranted by the department in future programs. Please consider increasing the tag allocation opportunity to a number which would actually impact the current population to substantially reduce the herd volume. If the department issued 100 permits it would greatly increase revenue, be favorable among Washington sportsmen/women, and have a significant impact in reducing herd numbers. Since the conflict reduction program is separate from the once-in-a-lifetime draw (OIL), and the proposed rule changes would raise the lifetime bag limit to two goats per hunter (one per category), there is an ideal situation for the department to capitalize on this opportunity. The application fee for the conflict resolution category could be raised, the fee for the successful applicant tag could increase and more revenue would be generated to fund future relocation efforts or make up general budget shortfalls. Ultimately I see a mutually beneficial opportunity for scientific based management, user groups, and fiscal responsibility. Thank you for your consideration and I wish you all the best in your future endeavors within the department.

So when you open the .pdf file and view the Quality Deer special permits none of the quantities changed much (2) at all which I find very strange.

Two weeks prior to is ridiculous..
You should have to return it within two weeks of getting it. Why hold onto it for two months then decide at the last minute you don't want it. I get the natural disaster scenario, fires and such. But now people will get to scout all summer and if they don't like what they see they can send the permit back no questions asked. Will the next guy in line have right of refusal. How many people will they have to call before they can unload the tags. You notify me two weeks before a season is going to start that I have a tag I've probably already made other plans.
I like the concept, I don't like the execution.

that 2 week deadline before the hunt starts is stupid, I agree it should be two weeks after the draw results, heck, even 4 weeks. But I bet most people will be pretty happy getting a phone call out of the blue saying they were receiving the permit.

I didn't pay close attention to that section, did it say that the receiver of the hand me down permit would lose their points?

Alkali moving to quality permits from bull, is terrible.
The unit is very restricted and archery hunters have to wear orange...now how is that a quality experience?

I don't think it said but it can be assumed yes, because you have now "drawn" a permit.

I don’t recall them saying, I would hope so. But if they didn’t want it because they already were committed to another permit, I’d hope that 2 week limit wouldn’t apply and they get to keep their points.

It really sucks to see them taking the portion of the Norway Pass Elk Area and placing it into the Loowit. It will completely eliminate bear, deer, cougar and grouse hunting in this area. They are citing enforcement issues as the reason why, but I think they are trying to keep hunter/hiker interactions down. If you guys have a chance make sure you let them know that you strongly disagree with their proposal.

I appreciate that but allowing permits is just going to make them more money and reduce hunting opportunities.

Am I reading this right that 3 turkeys can be killed in spring in Spokane County? So I could kill one in Kittias, one in Chelan and one in Spokane counties?

How come? 2 birds were shot in eastern WA and a 3rd was shot in Spokane? Maybe it wouldn't be allowed for how they meant it but I don't see how what I spelled out wouldn't work with the current language.

Yes, that is garbage. I disagreed with that and commented. Asking others here to do the same, please! It's under the "Elk" category, but would eliminate all other hunting in 5066 Norway Pass. Super lame. I bet hiker conflicts are to blame, too.

I guess it would depend on the game warden. As it is written ine bird only east Cascades included Klickitat. If you get one in Klickitat you would only be allowed one bird out in the NE or the SE. It will be interesting but I no longer see the increases in these proposals. In the last set before this one I did. I went back a couple times to look unless it is jammed up with other proposals.

Russ I think it was under the small game section with all the grouse stuff. I was skimming through it and just caught this on accident.
And I was saying Kittitas County, i.e. Cle Elum. Not Glenwood area.
I mean I guess I could see how this is trying to say only 2 birds in eastern WA can be killed, but 3 can be in Spokane. But then if we kill 2 anywhere else in eastern WA, then we can't shoot another in Spokane county? If we want to shoot 3 then all 3 birds have to come out of Spokane county?

64% of people was in favor of some kind of APR
36% Want no change at all
100% of people don't want a shorter season.
Which they recommend to Shorten the season.
Ya it's a joke is where I would start.
Then like a lot of questions it's lumped with reduced antlerless tags in 124 GMU ,There is no antlerless harvest in district 1 so how those proposal got put together is stupid.
We will lose 5 days off the late season this season.
6 days off 2022 season for district 1
65 older /disabled will lose antlerless hunts in 124 all together.
Youth loses antlerless late season.
I'm gonna ask all of you to disagree
At the very least comment no to shorter season in district 1.

Going thru and adding a few comments.

I smell the influence of the Forest Service wanting the Monument to be closed to hunting like a national park. There are lots of places with way more hikers than this. Went through the whole trail east to west last fall. Trail in awful shape, with very little evidence that it gets much hiker use (Boundary) but did run into a bear hunter. If less hunting is agreed on, over time, they have a better argument to make Mt st helens a park. The WDFW already gave up hunting on the hills above Coldwater (2000 acres) cowtowing to the USFS. They also are feckless when it comes to fishing Spirit Lake. Hunting and fishing here, BY LAW, is managed by the WDFW not the USFS. But the scientists in charge hate it and push to close everything to hunters.
