Did someone start this already? I was really hoping to see some success from those that made it out this weekend. I’m headed out for a few days this week so hopefully I can update this with a story and some pics. I got some great intel from one of the very successful predator hunters on here that’s local to the area I drew and I can’t wait to get out there.
-
Still only one bear on camera a week ago. Checked another cam today and nothing. :dunno:
-
Pin this please! Can’t wait to see the first kills! Man I wish I had a tag, have to live through a couple buddies that drew. Good luck boys/girls!
-
Hoping to make it to camp this week. Been prepping for it long enough. Good luck everyone!! Ready to see pics and hear some success stories.
-
Buddy and I will most likely buzz up to 49 May 1st weekend just to cruise around and see what is what. Maybe kill a turkey and do some "scouting"
-
Going to make the first trip this weekend in to the Blues!

Going to make the first trip this weekend in to the Blues!
good luck!!!! Keep us updated!
-
Hoping to see this thread full of bears this year
Good luck to you springers
-
Talked to a guy out in huckleberry today.
Hopefully pics will start coming in.
👌
-
C’mon hunters, where are your stories??!!
-
I know they're out there trying. Sounds like it's not quite spring in spots. Me, I'm waiting on the mechanic.
-
Big boy
-
That’s a gagger right there.
-
Just got back from checking cams, 4 different bears which means maybe 25% are out and about around my parts. Grass is greening up and the weather is looking good. Couple more weeks from now and it should be getting good.
-
Same experience here. Grass is just starting to green. Didn’t see any bears. Little bit of access to be had due to snow. Even got a light dusting of snow this morning!
-
Are there any bears being killed? This is weird, right?
Hello!?
-
Are there any bears being killed? This is weird, right?
Hello!?
It's because everyone kept piping off that there is absolutely no reason to hunt spring bears before......"X" date. :chuckle: :chuckle: Now people won't even hit the woods till late May.......which means they will be fighting with all other spring draw folks. Bears are out and about....I have pics to prove it. :chuckle: :chuckle:

Idaho spring bears
-
Nice!
Thanks for sharing. Looks like a big noggin on that 3rd bear.
-
:sry: I'm behind but I got my truck back today, so look for me in the woods by the weekend and might not come out before the 1st or maybe the 15th. :dunno: I got some catching up to do. :cmp1:
-
Good luck!!

I will say we've done over thirty miles of hiking over three days of bear hunting and seen exactly one bear walking through a cut, zero poop and zero tracks. Been trying!
-
I gave it hell for a few days as well and didn’t see any fresh sign or spot any. Going back over the week of the 10th for 3 or 4 days again so hopefully I have better luck. I left a few trail cams so hopefully they didn’t go for a walk and I got some pictures of more than just branches in the wind
-
Beyond stoked to watch my dad whop his first ever spring bear in Oregon! He's been hunting for 50+ years and he said he's never gotten buck (bear) fever that bad :chuckle: He was able to calm himself down and make a hell of a shot at 500 yards. I think he's hooked on this whole bear hunting thing
-
Congrats. Glad to see they are out and about. Hopefully our Washington bears cooperate for me this next week
-
Congrats, very cool!!! I know of one blues bear killed but the snow this year is bad. Later hunts will be better this year, the later the better.
-
Awesome, looking forward to seeing some more bears harvested!!! Good luck everyone!!
-
Great job, nice bear.
-
Great look in bears
-
Got my Eastern Oregon spring bear.
-
Nice color.

Any WA bears yet? Bears are sleeping in past their alarms this year I guess.

I'll get a picture posted tonight. First Spring bear from 117 last Thursday.
-
I've been hunting the copalis unit. I've had 7 sightings a couple of which may have been the same bear. I've turned down a couple sows and a couple of smaller boars. Although saturday, while watching this sow I noticed she started to get nervous and started to leave. I couldn't tell why she got nervous. I was only 100 yards away but the wind was perfect. Before she disappeared she stood on her hind legs and started looking over to my left. I stood up from my stump and saw a big boar coming in. I debated whether to wait longer for it to walk into the cut or shoot it while I had a broadside shot but a poor rest. I was standing leaned up against a snag. I chose to shoot and I didn't hear the bullet hit and The bear trotted off the other direction and did not appear wounded whatsoever. I searched the area for a long time to make sure I didn't hit it. No blood or any sign of it being hit. I couldn't find anything. I haven't missed a shot like that since I was a kid. I guess it happens to all of us at some point. :dunno: I'll be heading back in there tonight looking for redemption. goodluck to all the spring bear hunters!
-
It looks like You passed up a good bear, tough for people to do. Keep at it!
-
Yea, there was another one I passed up that was just a hair bigger, but it was getting dark and I wasn't 100% sure it was good sized until it started to leave. Hopefully I'm not being too picky. It was still early in the season when I passed up the first good sized one. I guess we will find out soon if I made the right choice.
-
Great shot of the standing bear!
-
I got my redemption this evening. I hiked into a cut near where I last saw the boar. To my surprise he saw or heard me first and took off running before I could see him. I ran to a log and jumped on it just in time to see him running towards the timber about 100 yards away. I took a freehand shot and dropped him instantly.

not my bear, but thanks!! :chuckle:
-
It’s getting good out there. Headed over Monday for my second 4 day trip. I didn’t see anything two weeks ago. Tuesday I Had a close call on one in thick brush,Wednesday passed on a small one, like 80lbs maybe, and that night was able to make a 515 yard shot on this old dry sow. She had just as much fat on her as I have seen on any fall bear.
-
Awesome bear Hillhound!! Congrats!
-
Sweet bear, congrats
-

Good job guys! Keep whacking and stacking them :IBCOOL:
-
Nice looking bears so far, congrats on your first bear Rob. If you weren’t hooked before you will be now. We are into the second and better half of the season now so hopefully this thread starts to take off.
If you have a tag and have been waiting around get out there and save some fawns and calves.
-
A second bear photo. Will post the story (not too dramatic) on a different thread later this week.
-
Great bear, Rob!!

The wife got it done on Thursday the 13th,60 yd shot , 190#,then filled her Turkey tag on Sunday. My brother got his bear on Monday (I'll let him do his own post) I was along for the ride no spring permit for me.
-
Awesome job! I was going to try to fill my second turkey tag after getting my bear but it was warming up and I wanted to get the meat home. That and I actually thought a bio would be able to meet me in Spokane. Looking forward to seeing your brothers.
-
Congrats to your wife! Great looking bear
-
Congrats on all the success guys and gals!
-
Nice thing about being late to the party most of the roads are dry and dead and windfall has been cleared. Thanks to early hunters and firewood cutters.
Hoping to have a success story before the end. Just making it here is a success at this point.

Couple of studs there! Congrats man!
-
My first bear. From 105. She isn't huge, but I told myself I wasn't going to be too picky since it's my first one. Super happy with her.
-
You never forget the first :chuckle: nice bear way to go
-
You said you didn’t want to be picky but that’ looks like a pretty good bear  especially for a sow. Really nice first bear
-
Looks like a great pelt
-
That’s a damn good bear. Congrats.
-
Heck Ya nice bear 👌
-
some good looking bears congrats all
-
Only one more week. Hopefully everyone with tags In their pockets still are doing everything they can to be out there putting the time in trying to save some fawns and calves. Probably the best seven days of the season left. Looks like it’s going to get warm again towards the weekend but I have killed bears in August when it was upper 90s to low 100s. Just have to move fast once you get them down
-
I know 2 wenaha tags that are going un-notched and they are done, they didn't see a single bear this year, but only spent one week out there. I only saw one bear myself, but I didn't have a tag.
-
Filled my second Idaho tag over the weekend.
-
Good lookin bruin
-
Well, my buddy and I did a hail Mary trip to Kelly Hill in a last ditch effort to fill his tag. 15 hours round trip of driving and we filled the tag after only 5 hours in the field! We went in on a group draw together so this fills both our tags. A couple years back we worked our tails off in sherman and were not able to connect. This was a "first bear" for both of us so we are both really happy! 35 hours doorstep to doorstep so we are also a bit tired!
Huge thanks to polishstunner for his assistance with strategy and location ideas. He is a class act!
-
Way to get it done. Nice job filling both
-
Awesome. Glad to see you guys both scored.
-
Awesome job. Congrats to both of you on filling your tags.
-
Congrats !!!!!!
👌👌👌👌👌

Love it! Way to get it done, congrats guys!

My Idaho bear last weekend
-
Thanks everyone!
And that is one nice looking ID bear!
-
Great bears Rob and IG
-
That’s awesome you were both able to fill your tags. Looks like some nice Idaho bears hitting the ground too. Hopefully everyone with a Washington spring bear tag is out for one last Hail Mary today. Bears should be out looking for some food and sunshine this afternoon after the thunderstorms we’ve had
-
my 21 wy spring bear, I gotta say this Big Horn Armory 89 is a hammer 75 yard shot and no tracking required :chuckle:
-
Nice!

Good looking bear!

Dang nice wy bear!

Backcountry Frank Church bear from this past weekend. Not a huge sow, but is a beautiful blonde bear. Missed her at 760 yards, but was able to sneak in and get a 15 foot shot on her in the buck brush. Long, hot, steep packout ensued.
-
Nice bear, Cave!
-
Hell of a deal, to within 15 feet!! Great job, congrats.
-
Congrats on the bear, could be worse! You could be packing it out this weekend!!
-
Thanks, everyone! I couldn't be more pumped. I can't figure out how to get the picture to flip, but this pack-out picture gives a little bit better feel for the lovely terrain we hunt over there.
-
Perfect bear country!
-
Awesome!!
-
Great looking bear. Congrats

Solo spring hunt in the Aladdin unit, May 2021. I’ve had good success here and the huckleberry five times now.

Nice bear!!! I’m pretty sure I killed mine adjacent to that exact same clearcut in June 2021.
Update: disregard, that red fir in the top left of your photo means it couldn’t be the same area.

Got my skull back today.

First bear. Pretty happy with it!

 and great picture - thanks for sharing.

Not too exciting of a story for this guy! Got out at first light with my buddy, we set up on a unit where we deer hunt a lot, he had seen a bear there a couple weeks earlier and also had one in there last July. At first light we ended up being socked in so we bumped around to some other spots to check for deer and maybe a bear. After a while of that we headed to see if the dog had burned off which it had. We set up and glassed for a couple hours and only turned up deer. We bailed out again to go set some cameras up in a spot that we’d been seeing lots of bucks in for a break from glassing. When we got back after setting the camera we hit the glass again, after scanning for a bit I looked down and shot my wife a text. Just as I set the phone down I looked up and saw a big black blob where there wasn’t one before. Hit him with the glass and confirmed it was a bear. Got on the gun and just as he was about to hit a leave strip of timber he paused and I put one in the neck at 400 and rolled him. He rolled out of sight so we gave it a few minutes, reviewed footage and then headed down to look for him. My buddy found him right as we broke down off the ridge and then we got to work! Awesome day! He’s a dandy, very happy with him.
-
Congrats!!
-
Pretty coat on him. Thanks all.
-
Congratulations on your first bear.

Leisurely start today. First calling set at 9:30. No action but got to watch the wildfire smoke roll in. Went to the next drainage over and started the second set. 20 minutes in got bored and started glassing a big cut about 1.5 miles away. Saw a black dot, left my caller where it lay and rushed over. Stopped about a half mile short and walked the road above to the slash pile he was closest to when I spotted him. Peeked around the pile and he hadn't moved. Easy 70 yarder.
-
Nice one
-
fly-by....that looks like a great bear too. Congrats.
-
Great job guys. Glad to see some people filling tags. I think I made a big mistake by not heading to the Westside to hunt since there must be no fire danger over there at all and no need to close DNR or restrict camping, Which by the way I seem to be the only one following the restrictions in my spots. Good luck to the rest of you with tags to fill still. I filled one with my spring tag so I’ll try not to be too negative about being held out of spots that I know I can get a bear if I put the time in.
-
Had my chance to notch first bear on Sunday morning. Posted up above some blueberries and patiently waited 1.5 hours. Heard rustling and snapping of twigs that kept my attention. Slowly worked my way down into the thickets to get a better look when a black blur came running out about 60 yards away. I steadied my rifle on him and realized he was a bit smaller than I was looking to take a life on. Figured with it being opening day there was no need to pull the trigger if I wasn't fully sold on the size. He winded me and took off running as I sat there smiling about how close I had come. Spent a fair amount of time scouting this summer and glad to see my instincts were correct.
Looking to go back up in there on Saturday and see if I can track down a bigger bear to pull the trigger on. Pretty excited though, only a matter of time now!

OPENING EVENING SUCCESS.....
Thank goodness for friends with winches.....

Congrats on the success, unfortunately some of are still locked out c of the areas we scouted all summer

Nice bear! Could you tell what he was eating in that clearcut? That looks like a lot of the cleacuts I was in all day and I didn't see any berries that looked like bear food. Congrats again.

I'm also intersted in this question... why hunt them in the clearcuts? I'm assuming this is just to see them better especially on the wetside... Apprecite the insight!

Also had some opening evening success! Old, old sow. Had a long night getting her out and much too early of a Monday at work.

He was eating Trailing Blackberries at 3250ft on a south facing slope. They are the smaller native variety that grow finer more sparse bushes compared to the invasive Himalayans. Maybe thigh high and spaced about 10 feet apart. Roughly half the berries on any given plant were ripe.
-
Congrats on a great bear! Way to save those fawns. An old guy I knew used to call the old ones that had rubbed the hair off their faces monkey face bears. Not sure if that is common terminology. Definitely looks like the west side Bears are going to be blowing this thread up for a while. You guys better get out and shoot your bears you have leads on before All us east siders start coming your way since everywhere we scouted is closed

Just think back to when you eastsiders used to have to wait for September opener. Maybe that will make you not feel as left out yet. :chuckle:
Easy to say when your first tags already filled. :chuckle:

After a long sit and laying eyes on this girl twice and not getting a shot opportunity she finally popped back out a third time at 60yds and presented me with a shot. Made a perfect shot and rolled her on the spot. As she was rolling around put a second shot in her for good measure so she didn’t get down in the nasty stuff. Special thanks to my brother for being out there to help pack it out. Couldn’t ask for better hunting partners than my two bros!

Filled the first tag with a tasty one. Called into 15 yards and gave it a few chances to run off but it stuck around too long so I fed him some 185 Berger’s.

Nice job dmoua

Was able to fill my first tag this weekend. We saw 4 bears and I botched two other easy shots at 150 yards. I am very happy with this little chocolate bear!

High mountain, west side bear. Chock full of blueberries. Definitely the bully of the bunch. Shot on the 3rd day of hunting on a 9 day backcountry trip. Sow and cub day one, small bore day two. Three other bears on the hill the day we took this one. Long days packing this guy out.

That's a bruiser! Congrats!

Thanks guys. Funny thing is my wife was spending too much time contemplating if she was going to shoot the smaller bear in the snow field below, but he started to walk away out of her range. We started focusing on another bear on the hill as a possibility, still keeping tabs on the snow field bear. As the snow field bear reached the trail into the woods, he immediately turned around and hauled butt out of there. What followed was the block head bully. Didn't take long to decide he was the one!
-
Called in a nice boar yesterday. Came in slow and quiet to 40yds. 3 for 3 in our group! :IBCOOL:
Nice bear! I recently added a Bakcou folding deer trailer to my bike setup and it worked pretty well and was fairly stable on logging roads, even some of the older ones. Rode it about 6 miles past the locked gates on opening day. Didn't see any bears but the bike setup worked great, and even allowed me to take a small cooler with ice cold drinks...

Nice job.
You said long days of pack out. Wow. That must have been a doozy of a hike. Sounds like a great hunt.

Not the biggest, but the Lord blessed me with this beautiful phased bear that will not only make a great wall hanger but also 2 descent hams and a nice 40lbs of summer sausage.
Aug 4, Sherman 101, called in with fawn distress, 70yd shot, went 10 yds and the rest is me sharing with you good folks.
-
Congrats on the bear. Cool color.
-
Congrats. I like the color. Looks like a tasty one. I bet even that old scarred up Berry patch one will be pretty good since he’s been marinating himself in blueberries.
-
JimmieD, nice bear! If you have a good summer sausage recipe as well, I'm all ears!
Spicy Tacos,
You said long days of pack out. Wow. That must have been a doozy of a hike. Sounds like a great hunt.
We started work on the bear @ about 5:30pm. Stashed the hide in the stream, loaded all the meat on my pack and all of our gear on my wifes for the pack out to low camp by 8:00pm. Got into low camp @ 1230 am. Next morning @ 9:00 am we hike the last 5 miles out to the car and dropped the meat at a friends house to cool. I hiked back in to low camp that afternoon, minus the wife since her feet got destroyed on the pack out. Got up the next morning and hiked in to get the hide, dropped it off in the ice chest in the rig and hike back to camp(15.15 miles for that day alone). Packed out camp the next morning.
Babies don't sleep as well as I did when I got home!
-
That's working it! Nice bear, and great effort. Good job.
-
The boys and I found success in Wa this weekend. After sitting over a prime spot for a couple hours I let the boys take turns on the call for 45 mins and this Boar decided to come take a look. Had to grind to get him out but it worked out and the boys worked their butts off right along side me. Dream come true.

One more…

Now that's cool. Congrats

Post of the year, Bond!!!
So cool.

Thanks all...
What awesome memories yall are creatin' cbond!!!
Brewkid - this year I am trying out Sausage Maker.com - North Country Summer - Summer Sausage seasoning. I really like their seasonings and thisll be a first time for this one. Usually use the basic Summer Sausage seasoning which my family enjoys, but am stretching out a bit this year and giving this one a try.
-
Nice memories congrats
-
Filled the first tag with a tasty one. Called into 15 yards and gave it a few chances to run off but it stuck around too long so I fed him some 185 Berger’s.
The impact of that bullet in the video was insane! Great hunt man!
-
Saw this guy cross the road on my way out. Enough time for a shot but not enough time to check for Cubs. I wait 5 minutes after he crosses, no Cubs. When he crossed he went straight into the thick stuff, I work around the stand he was in, get the wind right, about 30 min had lapsed with no movement, get on a ledge next to a stump, start calling and he comes right in, probably 5 mins of calling until he pops out at 9 yards. Cool weather, middle of the day and only a mile from the gate.
-
Nice job, love the close encounter. Good looking bear.
-
Thanks for sharing the pictures and story X-force. Congrats!

Nice bear, right on!

Yup look in good guys👏💪👍

What was your heartrate when you took that second photo, X-Force? LOL

Good for you for waiting man! That’s tough to wait but saves you from a bad experience

Finally filled my second bear tag. There have been lots of bumps in the road with the closure of state land, working more than I would like, and rolling my four wheeler with my gun on my back coming down a hill climb all set me back this year.
Made it back up where I had got into lots of fresh sign last week. Saw one moving away up and over a hill. Circled around to the other side to see if I could call it down the other side. No luck with that one but I had this dry sow come in from below me. Watched her moving up hill making sure nothing was in tow and looking for a perfect shot. Shot when I had an opening at 40 yards with my sons 243, double lung catching the offside shoulder and dropped in its tracks. First time I’ve shot a bear with a small caliber so I was impressed. I was using it cause I still havnt shot my 300wsm after taking it for a trip down the hill with my four wheeler.
Good luck to all of those with tags still. Hopefully this cool weather helps. Sure was nice not being 100 degrees when trying to deal with a bear on the ground
-
My brother and nephew stuck it out in the off and on rain all day yesterday and it paid off. Two bears in one day. My nephews first big game ever. What a hunt it was.
-
Now that is awesome!! Congratulations. Trying to get back to my woods for #2.
-
Awesome. That’s a good day. Glad to see you got your nephew hooked now too

Smoker black bear!
Nice work, John!

I filled my first tag in the spring season. August was a slow start for me. I went out every chance I could get (5-6 days a week) I stayed home just enough to avoid a divorce :chuckle: I wasn't seeing anything. I found some sign but nothing significant. I ended up messing my left foot up pretty bad on thursday, so I decided I need to take it easy saturday. I have a road I hunt that always seems to produce animals. So I decided to lay in the road and watch all morning. There is almost no visibility on the sides so it makes it real easy to stay put. I waited from 6am-10:30am when I got bored and cocky. I tried to walk in another area but my foot told me no. So I drove back to my spot and walked in there and laid back down in the road. ten minutes in and I could hear some branches breaking. I expected to see an elk just because I haven't had much action this year. After a couple minutes I see the top of a 15ft tall cascara tree topple over about 75 yards away. I knew it was a bear at that point. I knew he wasn't going to cross the road for a while if at all. So I double checked the wind and walked up the road slowly and as quiet as possible. pretty soon I could see the tree moving but not the bear. I walked a little further and I got a good look at 20-25 yards. needless to say, he dropped where he stood. I shot at 1:25pm. I had him skinned, quartered and loaded up in the fridge by 4:30. Help showed up just in time to help me get it in bags and to the pickup. He's no giant, but my taxidermist believes he's 15-18 years old. I can't complain one bit. I would've been happy with a small young bear.

That is an old fighter of a bear!
-
Son's bear from yesterday. He / We hunted hard for 5 days with just a few sightings and near misses. We hiked and covered some serious ground. We sat for very long hours of boredom..... He was a trooper and just kept keeping on. Last night was our last night before having to head home today because school starts tomorrow. It was about an hour before quitting time and it was clear he was dejected. We were sitting on an old logging road we have seen bear on before. He was distracted and dejected.....then a bear ran down the road 10 feet from us. He wasn't ready and that bear just kept running :chuckle: :chuckle:!! It was super cool but he couldn't believe he just missed an opportunity because he was down and out. I told him to sit still and be ready, figured the small bear had ran buy because there was another in the area. Low and behold, 6 minutes later his bear stepped out on the road 30 yards away from us. It stood broadside and offered a perfect shot. He hammered it with his sisters rifle (Savage Ultralite 6.5 creed). We were using her rifle so we could test the new bullets (hammer Hunter 124 gr) and they performed perfect. Bear was dead on its feet and only covered 15 yards before piling up. 153 lbs live weight.
I was proud of how he stuck out the 15 hour days and stayed positive. This was a lesson learned that hard work pays off....and a little bit of luck. Also helps that this road leads to the promise land of wild plum trees.
Proud dad moment.
-
Nice!!!!!!
Can't imagine eating that many plums.....
-
Way to stick it out. That’s going to be a tasty one.

Slow evening hunt on my raffle elk tag so my buddy says let’s go look for a bear. Ok. We get to the spot, see two deer, “well there obviously no bears here with those deer being so calm.”
15 seconds later two more deer coming running out of the brush, right behind them is a jet black bear. I grab the brand new RBros 300 win mag, range the bear at 341 yards, know the drop is ten inches and squeeze one off. Bear jumps and runs straight downhill. Pauses for a second and I touch off round number two. Bear starts tumbling.
30 minutes until it starts getting dark so the race is on. Not much blood but we find the bear not far from where I saw him rolling. First shot hit lung and was probably good enough but I’m a keep shooting until they are done guy.
First bear in Washington for me, I got one in Alaska years ago. Alaska was a spring bear. I can’t believe how much fat is on this guy and how nice the hide is.
Only got one photo. It was a late night.
-
Nice job Ranier 👍

Got my very first bear yesterday. He wasn’t a monster but still very thankful.

Congrats raydog. Nice work!

We got our first black bear back on August 30th at about 7am while he was eating breakfast. He's all black except a white patch on his chest and a big ol'pumpkin head too. Such an awesome first bear to have gotten, might be a personal best for us for a while. We took almost the whole bear with us too, we were fortunate enough to be fairly close to our car and didn't mind taking trips. I'm still rendering down the fat and grinding up some meat its just awesome to have a deep freezer full of delicious meat!
-
Great first post and awesome bear
-
Dang niffers - set the bar high much! Well done - congratulations on a beautiful harvest.
-
Beautiful bear. Will be great eating too....congrats.

Best bear of the year! Nice work.

Thanks you guys!

How long was he Niffers?
-
Pumpkin head is right! Nice bear Sir
-
Ya thats the one !
-
How long was he Niffers?
Well we were a bit too excited to get a nose to tail measurement. The skull measures 11.25 by 7 scoring an 18.25 on the Boone and Crockett.
-
That is a stud bear! If you're looking for recipes I think Hank Shaw's chorizo recipe works well w/ bear meat (you can reduce the pork fat by a lot and salt by a little). So does breakfast sausage.
Enjoy!
-
Great solo hunt! Second bear one hell of a pack out. I was about to leave my last sit and Check another road. He came crashing down a spur road. 50 yard shot went 20 yards. Greatfull! :IBCOOL:

Thank you all for the good comments. Now just need to find a new taxi as the one I have used in the past has quit due to health problems. Recommendations/suggestions?

Get'in it done jingles💪.
-
Nice bear, Jingles. Well done. I saw a beautiful brown with a blond streak on his chest at about 50 yards standing up. Didn't give me a clean broadside, though. How would you skin a bear to take advantage of that chest marking, slice down the back? :dunno:
-
Consult with a taxi. I do know they can do some sewing . Plus with what you describe how would you even be able to rug it? Almost have to do a live mount.
Git this one all cleaned up and even though I am biased he is even prettier than I hoped for, causing some "discussion" between wife and I about rugging him and the cost and need for a second bear rug.
-

Counce Taxidermy in ellensburg specializes in bear rugs and he does his own tanning in house. Not the cheapest but a very good finished product and you won't have to wait years for a tannery to get to your hide

It could be rugged with the blond strip on each side, probably. Maybe a headless rug cut up the back, dying cockroach style. Or a full mount, but then I would be single again for the fourth time.

Blane is a good friend of mine and is pretty much done doing taxidermy work. He pretty much strictly is into his bees and selling honey.

Had an awesome Saturday got my first black bear!! A beautiful young sow color phase with a thick winter coat already grown in. I ended up shooting her a 100 yards below me, 45 degree angle at 5pm. She's about 3.5 feet long and so cute! Her mouth was so blue from all the berries she had been munching on and her whole gut cavity was smelling like them too. We got her processed in about 2 hours much faster the our first bear and were back to our car before 11pm. I will post a picture of her skull when I'm done whitening it, the back of her skull twists a bit to the left and not symmetrical, very cool find.
-
You two are having a great year! Congrats!

Berries still around at '5000 wetside

Congrats. Cool color especially for a west side bear
-
Filled my bear tag during deer season!

Nice job, hope you got the deer too.

Wdfw updated the tooth age look up and said my 2021 spring bear was 7 years old
-
..
-
Thanks for the reminder. I Just checked my 2021 Spring bear as well. 7yo
-
Just checked mine, still pending results. When the news broke that they suspended spring bear for 2022 my dad called and said I could have possibly killed the last spring bear ever in WA state. I shot mine the afternoon of June 14th this year. Probably not but it’s still a neat thing to think about. Congrats on the nice bear btw.

After getting to watch multiple nice bulls I was able to spot a chocolate. Hammer down. Saw quite a few bears this season. And should have filled a second tag. But none the less I am happy with this fella.
Nice elk in pic while watching over a berry patch. Elk showed up hours before dark. In dead heat of day. The bear waited until a little cooler.
