Title: Home security
Post by: Thehowler on May 11, 2021, 05:02:54 PM
Looking for a Security system monitoring company that folks have been happy with.
I called today to get a key-fob reprogrammed for a Ademco keypad, and was told 130.00 per hour min, 1 hr, + 40.00 trip fee. I’ve been using these guys since 1995. Ouch.  :yike:
I’ll start looking for a good YouTube video.

Monitor your own house.

Security companies are going to be a thing of the past. Most Le agencies won't go to alarms anymore.

I have a multi camera Arlo system that I can live stream and is also motion activated. Records as well.
Way better than a standard alarm system.

We have a Ring system and are happy with it. I also have a half dozen hidden trail cams around the place.

I had the same experience with a security company here in Spokane. $40 dollar trip fee........ their office is 3 miles from my house. I told them to pound sand and asked them if they wanted to pick up their equipment from the porch or should I just throw it in the trash? So many other options available now days.

I bought Wyze cameras... They are for indoor use, but you can purchase a cover for them and use them outdoors. They are relatively cheap, and the app for your phone is free. It records video, has a microphone, etc. You can also look at live video on your phone when you are away. I got all of my stuff online, but I have seen them at home depot as well. As a backup, I have 2 large dogs, a gate, and a hardened chain with lock.... :chuckle:

I have a combination of simpli safe for some stuff and Arlo for the rest. Both are super easy and much cheaper ways then a company installing.

Old school... Our dog will eat ya and might weigh more than a thief as well.  Also other covert measures in place.  A good sign helps too, like one involving owners use of firearms maybe??   I feel a good relationship and "lookout" agreement with neighbors is HUGE as well.

Contact alarmsystemstore.com for monitoring.  They're good and they are the cheapest around.

Blink, Arlo, Ring.

Put up a couple $50 blinks and had good luck - 2 way conversation over them is nice.  Like the Arlo light and siren features.

Did Arlo doorbell for consistancy.

My son has blink and likes it. The USB doesn’t work well according to him and the reviews, so I’ll be paying the $100 a year for the pics/video storage, and upload to phone when I install my cameras.

The nice thing about blink is no hard wire anything, works on WiFi, and batteries which lets you mount the cameras in a lot more places.

I picked up a couple of WYZE cam V3 from Amazon for about $35 each this week. The new ones are for indoor-outdoor use. I set one up in the garage looking through the window in the door down the driveway. Here is what I saw the next morning!!!  :yike: I'll be getting more!!  :chuckle: :chuckle:

 :yeah:
I have a Simplisafe system just as a way to wake me up if someone is *censored* enough to break in while we’re home. I don’t pay the monthly fee because it’s worthless. Alarms can be left pending for hours when departments are busy.
