I just ordered some vinyl dipped mesh to make a prototype shrimp pot and am looking for the clamps to hold it together. The ones on my commercially made pots are 3/4" or 7/8" wide but I can't seem to find them anywhere.

I bought these which are the same idea but way too small:

Anyone know what they are called and where I can pick some up? I looked all over online at animal cage making suppliers as well as fishing and all I can find are hog rings or j-clips. These are much more secure and I want to go that route if I can figure it out.

Trap building supplies?

Thanks, that's them. Just need to find them in quantities under 3,000.

Call McKays in Brinnon and see if they will sell you some. Great people there!

Looks like a dead end unfortunately, you need a several hundred dollar pneumatic tool to install them. Great for production, not so good for one or two pots. Looks like I'll have to figure a way to make hog rings work.
Thanks for the help though.

It would be a bit more work than hog rings, but I've used stainless steel welding rods on my crab pots and ropes.

How about the good old trusty hose clamp? Being it is a prototype would be easier to adjust if needed? :twocents:

Yeah, I'm thinking maybe starting with zip ties and if it works go with something permanent. Hog rings are a PIA to remove if you want to make any changes.

:yeah:
I use zip ties on my danielson crab pot, but it has hooks that hold it in place. I wouldn’t rely on them for a permanent structure.

I'll have to talk to my Brother in law. He got a bunch of pot making gear from a friend that retired from the business. I think he crimps with a hand tool.

Thanks!
