What is the latest date that you have seen bucks with velvet still on? Archery September 1st?

I have seen smaller bucks with velvet still on the first week of September.  Nothing after the 10th of September.

Had a bow hunter and his wife both score on velvet bucks during the High Hunt

We got a 4x4  Muley 2 years ago during the muzzleloader season (first few days of Oct) that still had velvet. It was just not thick velvet that you would think of but was fully covered.

Does elevation matter? I see high hunt but does the weather, elevation have anything to do with it?

Seems like 90% I get on cam shed by the end of the first week of September. There are outliers though

I have noticed that in open country, there are some bucks that are just too lazy to rub off their velvet.  It's rare, but I have shot one (like in the picture above) that looked like he never even bothered with it.  It just dried over the antler.  Another buck looked like he spent 5 minutes on it and called it good.  Both bucks shot during the general rifle season in October.  I'll see if I can find some pics.

back when little bucks were still legal I shot spikes and two points still in velvet on the high hunt openers.

This is that buck that never rubbed off his velvet.  Most of the fuzz had fallen off, but his antlers were covered with dead, brown, dried skin that was never rubbed.  He didn't look terribly healthy either.  He was really skinny.  I chalked that up to the drought that season, but maybe there was something else wrong with him.  PathfinderJR shot a big bodied buck that year with stunted antlers.  Bad year...

Saw a super 2x2 in velvet opening day of muzzleloader season last September! Latest I've seen velvet.
