Title: Pork Butcher Near Tri Cities
Post by: gallion_t on June 29, 2021, 11:02:15 AM
Hello all,

A friend of mine is raising pigs and decided to do extras for friends and family so I signed up for one. Ill be there for the slaughter and such, but the butcher they are using is up in Manson. I am hoping to just take the halves with me and bring them to somewhere closer for the actual processing. Does anyone have a recommendation for someone within an hour or so of the Tri Cities?

Im big into doing my own meat processing and making my own bacon, sausage, hams and all of that. I really only need them to break it down into the primal cuts.

I of course have looked at Google but most places don't show their prices so before  I bombard a bunch of butchers with quote requests I'd like hear from a few guys with personal experience.

Thanks

Travis

Have you thought about breaking it down yourself?  Once it's in halves, it would be very manageable for a guy to break it down into whatever he wanted.

Ive taken a few beef cows to Bryans Butcher Block out in King City and been happy. Its been a few years since I did this and i seem to remember he was on the more expensive side compared to some others. His dad used to be a butcher too, ran a freezer on the side of his home off I want to say Rd. 44 in Pasco.

My brother used Knutzens once and i do not remember him complaining.

McCarys in Basin City I think is also fine to use. If i remember right, the original owners sold to some not so great folks, who then sold to the owners that are running it now and I think they do a good job from what Ive heard.

Dont know the name, but when i price shopped the one in Prosser was the cheapest.

We have run hundreds of beef and hogs through Knutzens and have also been satisfied.  Give Steve a call.

I have. I actually helped butcher 9 last year, but wasn't happy with the cuts we got. Also with only having a hand saw it seems like a really long day. Depending on what I get for quotes I might go that route though. I already have all of the equipment as I butcher all of my wild game myself.

I used Bryan's a couple years ago to make some pepperoni for me before I learned how to do it. They were good, but I remember it being on the pricy side.

Knutsons is my go to for when I want a good thick steak. I will for sure look into them for doing the butchering.

There is (or was ?) a place in Hermiston (cant remember the name) that I had an elk done some years back that was cheep and simple. Simple meaning they didn't smoke, cure, or spice anything, just cut and wrap. A father, son operation if I remember. Very fast turn around. Only reason I didn't use them again was I wanted all the Pepper sticks, Sausage etc that I couldn't do at home.

Iv used Bryans.  Like others said its good stuff but on the pricey side.
Knutsens is awesome.  I inquired about bringing a deer to him and he told me he could not take it, but if i brought him the deer broken down he could grind it and do pep stick or whatever i wanted.
There is Follet's in Hermiston.  Guys at work use them and Iv had there jerky and such,  Its good and good prices.
Guys at work also use Eastern Oregon mobile slaughter alot to break down there beef and hogs.
CJ's meats in Toppenish does great work as well.

Haun’s Meats in Walla Walla
I’ve had bear and several deer done there. Top notch outfit and they do a lot of pork

Bryan’s is the reason I started butchering my own game. Had a deer done by them once and it was Spendy for just basic cut and wrap.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Sounds like there's a lot of good options.
