I am looking for a Muzzleloader for elk in Wa. I am clueless when it comes to these guns and looking for recommendations on what to look for. What would be a good fun to start with. 90% of my elk hunting will be with a bow so it does not have to be nice/expensive. Looking for a modern Muzzleloader. Thanks.

for me its about tooless breech plug and 209 ignition.

These are nice rigs. I have one that’s 2? years old and it shoots fine.

I know you are looking for modern. I've been using this Hawkin 54 for years, 3 elk and 5 or 6 deer.

I also have the Traditions Vortek Strikerfire, just not the Vapor model.

If you aren't going whole hog into muzzleloading get something simple that makes sense and feels good in your hands. For me that would be a break action CVA or Traditions, simple easy and lots of them around. I use a CVA Optima and LOVE it. Easy to remove breech plug, shoots great, handles well, I just like it.

Thompson center Black diamond XR in .50 cal
120GR of 777 FFG powder
Hornaday xtp .45cal 300gr hp/ xtp bullet
T/C mag express sabot no. 8281
I personally run musket caps but it can run 209 primers
This load with this gun has taken hour, $$$$, and many many shots to develop. It’s incredible!
You will find many setups out there and different guns to chose from, this one is as simple and easy as they come. Absolutely one of my most cherished and favorite guns. And with practice it’s a tack driver out to 200 yards. Only thing holding you back will be your skills with fiber optic open sights.
It’s no longer in production but can be found used for $200+
Try to find one in stainless if you can.
Good luck and enjoy the third weapon option. It’s one of my favorites.
