Title: Huckleberries a bust
Post by: Billy74 on July 05, 2021, 12:46:22 PM
Haven’t been up to where we like to pick them this summer around Colville.  Is the early heat gonna hurt them or quicken them.  Last year they were out for a few weeks around the end of July.

I did eat a few about a week ago.
But that patch wasn't look in good. A bunch of dinks.Handful that might be ripe and some small ones just dried up.
We have this thing in my family circle ......
Who will be the one to eat the first huckleberry for year.
So when I see them I slam it in park and run my fat @$$ over there as fast as I can. :chuckle:  :chuckle: :tung: :chuckle:

Not much moisture and awful hot in my areas. I see a rough year for berries unless something changes and quickly, but I think it’s too late.

I was out this morning and it looks like a bumper crop of all berries on the west side this year.  Berries everywhere you look.

I haven't specifically checked on huckleberries, but I see service berries already starting to turn color, I expect the hucks will be at least a week early, should come on pretty soon if there are going to be any. With the dryness it's questionable in the Northeast?

The Dawg and Grandma just got back from a huckleberry check.  We went to one of Grandma's favorite places.  I went to check there's a few berries on the bushes, as I made my way off the road went around the corner and found a tent pitched off the road.  On our way to check some other spots saw huge piles of bear biscuits in the road.  Kind of surprising that there's no hand guns laying in them. (Members used to post photos with a Pistol on the piles) :dunno:
Found that the service berries are ripe in quite a few spots.
