Any insight on fishing Lake Bonaparte. Finally going to get a chance to fish there. Any recommendations on bait or location on lake appreciated. TIA

I’m interested too. We fished it in the middle of a hot day, three years ago and got skunked.

I do remember that lead weights are illegal.

.
New restriction?
Because of loons probably.
We used to use leaded line and find the schools of bait, put a u-20 silver/blue or a j-9 rapala, same color or rainbow..
.
Only way to get away from the little smallmouth along the Shore...
.
.
Before the bass showed up, it was one of the best brook trout lakes I ever fished. :(

I don’t know if it’s a new restriction. I have only fished Bonaparte once in 2018.

Maybe someone else knows when that rule started.

We fished it last month for about 6 hours. We caught fish on rooster tails, pop gear and kokanee squids (caught rainbows and tiger trout as well as kokanee) we fished mostly large circles around the reed bed at the north end of the lake. It was a great time but the wind was stronger than we thought it would be. The fishing was better after the sun was off the lake in the evening. Next time we will anchor up and throw flies and spinners into the reed beds as the fish were feasting in there. It was our first time but will not be the last. Good luck and have a great time.
