Title: A different view of a very famous fishing hole
Post by: klickman on April 29, 2009, 11:54:18 AM: Here are some pics of the Kenai/Russian River confluence. This summer this is probably the busiest fishing "hole" in AK. Right now there is more ice than people. The last pic is a little reminder that our brown friends are awake. Enjoy the pics.

I can see that. The rapids at Princess Lodge is about as wide as a drift boat. Really skinny, but there are a few good rainbows in that hole right now.

I need to fly up to Homer to do some fishing in the area...... How does that raft of yours row? I've never rowed one setup with a rowing rack, how do they compare to aluminum drift boats? I keep thinking of picking up a raft and possibly replacing my DB with one.

Come on up its been in the mid 60's all week. It rows really good. You loose a lot of room obviously when you switch to a raft. It stops well and responds very quickly. The only thing it doesn't do is track across stream as fast as a DB because it doesn't have chines like DB. It floats in a lot skinier water and you can float a lot of small systems that a DB is too big for. If you are used to rowing a big aluminum boat and then switch to a raft you will be amazed with the differences. Its like comparing an SUV and a sports car. both will get you down the road but the ride is totally different. Up here a raft is a lot more practical since there are only a few rivers to float with a DB, and I can put my raft into a plane and fly it anywhere I want.

Klick do you bait yet or got sites, I got a couple killer locations that ARE NOT being utilized and I hate them to go to waste, after eight years of conditioning Bears, I'd like to see someone continue with controlling the Black Bear population near Kenai Lake... Never ever shot a bear from them eariler than 16 May and never baiting them till Ice was out, typically this or last weekend. Great hides till way into closing June 15th date, in fact if you can hold off till June to hunt, you can get one every night.... Everyone else at that time already knocked out their bears for the year and quit baiting and/or Salmon season started, so mine is normally the only "Resturant" in town.... and never had a rubbed hide.... Only one got chewed up (got eaten by Griz when we couldn't get it out till the next day). If your interested PM me. I'd like to see them go to someone that would up keep them versus them not being up kept for future bear years, one condition, if I return in a few years I get them back..... Must have motor boat to access sites.. Mike

Yep Todays that last day you can fish the upper and the middle river. Kings are open on the lower river. Yep I hunt a few stations across the inlet. Don't hunt any stations around here. I would love to get a station going on the lake the only problem is is that I only have the raft, and my "armstrong" motor doest run that far. Thanks for the offer though. It sucks when a good station doesn't get used anymore.
