Title: Bucks in velvet
Post by: Eric M on August 26, 2021, 08:35:37 PM
I just got home from bear hunting and I saw a ton of bucks still in velvet. Just curious if anyone gets bucks still in velvet for archery? I've hunted archery off and on but I thought it would be pretty cool to get a buck in velvet.

It is a fun possibility. Almost got a shot on one a few years back still in velvet by mid-late September.

We've shot a couple. We call em "velveteen" bucks.....like velveteen rabbit. lol

Usually only the first few days of early archery. once they hit the dirt the velvet tears/scrubs off pretty easily

A lot of saplings are getting the crap bloodied out of them in the next 72 hours or so.

Saw a nice velvet back last year during opening weekend of early general muzzle loader, like September 24th or something. ~26" wide, tall, 2x2  :tung:

Of the 9 bucks I saw last night, 6 were still in velvet. I have killed several that still had velvet.

Ha ha no, these weren’t townies. One of them was a 1x3 though. The 2 biggest bucks still had their velvet.

Yup !!!   First week of September last year velvet was starting to come  off taxi couldn't save it so he did artificial velvet. Bringing him home next week but looks like he turned out OK doesn't look fake like I've seen some artificial velvet look.
