Title: Bucks in velvet
Post by: Eric M on August 26, 2021, 08:35:37 PM: I just got home from bear hunting and I saw a ton of bucks still in velvet. Just curious if anyone gets bucks still in velvet for archery? I've hunted archery off and on but I thought it would be pretty cool to get a buck in velvet.

thanks. I've seen it with caribou, but I never knew anyone to shoot a buck still in velvet.

It is a fun possibility. Almost got a shot on one a few years back still in velvet by mid-late September.

Usually only the first few days of early archery. once they hit the dirt the velvet tears/scrubs off pretty easily

Were they the little bucks bedded above the highway last week :chuckle:

Ha ha no, these weren’t townies. One of them was a 1x3 though. The 2 biggest bucks still had their velvet.

Post by: BLDtraLR on August 29, 2021, 11:04:29 AM: Yup !!! First week of September last year velvet was starting to come off taxi couldn't save it so he did artificial velvet. Bringing him home next week but looks like he turned out OK doesn't look fake like I've seen some artificial velvet look.
