Title: They closed the Snake for steelhead, What to do ?
Post by: gaddy on September 08, 2021, 04:02:23 PM
Been kind of bummed lately since the immediate closure of the snake on the 3rd. Had heard a rumor that they were thinking about it but a long time regular up by Ice Harbor told me on the 1st that he had called the bio for the area and was assured they weren't closing it.
I generally check special rules every morning but on the 3rd, my son was in town and sleeping in the back room with all of his gear on the computer chair. Hey, I was just told all was OK by someone who had talked personally with the bio so I'm good right ? Well up I go fishing. Noticed there weren't as many people up there, Talked with a few and every thing was cool. Then another regular rolled up and I was giving him crap about bankers hours as he had done to me the day before. He informed me that he had got a call late on the 2nd, second hand knowledge, and  he wasn't positive, but thought it was closed. We went up and talked to another regular to see if he could bring it up on his phone, Didn't bring it. Another guy rolls up that been up river a bit and told us -shut down. CRAP!! I grab all my gear and toss it into the truck. Whats the rush I was asked. I'm not getting busted for fishing in a closed season was my reply and every one scrambled to get their gear stowed away.
On my way out I stopped to tell another regular that I know has all the info on his phone and he gets reception. I told him what was going on and he was BU!!!!S!!! I checked and this what the regs are. I had him pull up special regs and there it was.
Evidently it was posted late afternoon on the 2nd? None of us checked early am?

Anyway, here I am, up early, doing all this winterizing crap and other chores around the house and vehicles when I should be fishing. Went to ringold to look around (not gonna buy a discovery pass) and I would need heavier gear to fish the salmon up there. Stopped by another place but you can't cast out without getting 20lbs of crap on your line.

So here I sit taking a break from chores that I usually do in the after noon AFTER fishing and wondering what to do with the rest of my season. My long time Goose spots have been shut down, Duck boat is broke, big game partners are gone. Guess I'll do some laundry.

The wife seems happy, so there is that.

Just had to vent a bit between beers, off to pull up the garden for the year  >:(
