This was emailed to me and I thought I would share. Let the Mt. Saint Helens Advisory Commitee know your feelings before it is too late. :yike: The NPCA is purshing hard in Washington DC to convert this into a national park. When you look at the maps attached below you will realize how our hunting opportunities will be reduced.

Hey there,
You knew this wouldn't be done and over with. What's with the "preserve" verbage? Would they allow hunting in that area?
-
Thank you so much for the info BB this might make it simple for all to view..
Why is this 2008 have they all-ready made there mind up last year?

After going to all of the meetings i can guarantee, there will be no hunting, horse back riding, mountain bike riding or snow mobiling. This group wont be happy untill everything is looked up, and its hands off.B Barnes KEEPING PULIC LANDS PUBLIC :mgun2: :tree1:
-
Bruce, what is the "Mt. St. Helens Preserve" specified as? What is its planned use ? Will it be huntable?
-
What is the deal with Map E? It is dated a year later than the others- April 2009, and shows even a lot of private land near Swift that would be part of the Park, along with a lot more public land. It is the most confiscatory option of them all. Not only are they trying to take our public hunting grounds but now they are going to confiscate private property? It just shows how emboldened they are now.
-
The park service would not be specific and my advice to all sportsman is send all of your state reps and everyone on the advisory board a letter or email.Say NO
NATIONAL PARK at MT SAINT HELENS and keep our public lands public in a nice way.
We need to flood the advisory board and congressman and senators with emails and letters, this is the only way they will listen. There was a bill signed in march by congressman Baird called the HISTORIC PUBLIC LANDS BILL,and they received billions of dollars for historic lands to be purchased.Well my way of thinking is the mt and the area around it like, marble mt, goat marsh and the high lakes are historic lands and there for sale.We need to encourage the reps to buy this land, before it turns into subdivisions.B Barnes keeping public lands public.

Did I miss something? WDFW GoHunt shows the area around Mount St. Helens being national park.
http://fortress.wa.gov/dfw/gispublic/apps/gohunt/default.htm?VIEW=Deer/Elk&BOX=1154812.480187849:231453.6139262148:1416842.782390197:415177.26091470895
Is this huntable?
-
the area that lays within the monument area is (national park)
-
It's not a national park... it's a national monument.
-
I guess Im confused then. The map legend says it is Federal-Park service. It looks a lot like those maps posted above. Can we hunt in that area or not? Specifically that arm that drops into the Lewis River unit.
-
Yes, national monuments you can hunt.
The only area down there you can't hunt is the Loo-wit GMU.
-
Thanks Bobcat. I was pretty sure that was the case but after seeing the dark green on the map I thought they might have made it a national park after all. I am easily confused. :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
From readingthe letter and lookign at the maps they dont seem to know what direction it may take. I dont see it set in stone as a national monument. The maps show a park. Either way it seems that they dont know or are being subversive about letting anyone know waht their full intent might be.
Whats wrong with the way it is now?
-
They think they can get more money if it's a National Park rather than a National Monument.
