Title: .300 PRC
Post by: h2ofowlr on October 20, 2021, 09:33:55 PM
Is a .300 PRC or 6.5 PRC worth the hype?  The balistics caught my eye on the .300 PRC.  I have several .300 Win Mag and was consdiering adding another long range rifle and trying to see if it's worth the investment.  Any feedback would be appreciated.

IMO it’s not worth the hype. I bought the 6.5 prc for the hype only to find out my 270wsm still performs better at longer range.

If you reload,  no.   A 300 wm with 215 bergers = 1000 yd smackdown.
If you don’t reload then maybe.   ( but I have a 40 yr old vanguard that shoots factory Bergers in 3” groups at 500 yd)

But cool factor - heck ya.  Get one .

I shoot out to a mile with my 300 prc with a 230gr at 2900 ft second . Shot my buck at 726 yards through the shoulder going in came out the neck

The 300 prc is designed to shoot heavy bullets i actually hit the 3000 feet second  mark with the 230 berger bullet but slowed it down . I take the prc over any other 30 caliber out there and i did lol .

I was on the fence on this as well.  Then lapua released the 300wm brass.  Easy choice for me.  I already had dies for 300wm.  Current load is super sonic to 1850.  Like mw said if you reload your not gaining anything with the prc

If you've already got one of their closest competitors like the 300 WM or a 270 WSM, they're not worth it. If you've got a hole in your line up for a 30 caliber magnum or a zippy sub 7mm, they're no worse than a lot of other options.

I bought a Christensen Arms Mesa in .300 PRC in 2019. I have only shot as far as 500 yards but it shot MOA with Hornady Hunter factory ammo. In hindsight I would probably have got the 300 WM do to the availability of factory Ammo. Hornady is still the only one putting out 300 PRC ammo and it is very hard to find.
