Hey everyone, first time hunting in the colville area. I’m going to be headed up there in a couple days and staying till I get a buck or run out of time. I’ve got maps and data, just not quite sure where to to start. Any lakes or peaks to focus my time?
I was there for a couple hours last weekend and saw two or three herds on the drive up, but the area i was walking around had zero active deer signs.

The Whitetail’s really started to move today. I wasn’t after them, but kept seeing them mid day, including a flipping hawg. I’m guessing 6x6 massive tight basket. Anyways, I saw a bunch of fresh scrapes today and some nice licking branches. I wouldn’t go out on a limb and say the rut has started, but that they are becoming active.

That’s good to hear! It’s a big area, any places you recommend going first out there?

I’ve had better luck hunting DNR and private timberlands than the national forest. If you don’t have OnX or one of the other apps that will delineate private and public land you will want to get it and use it. Lots of deer to be found with a little work ethic.

Pretty much wherever you pick you’ll find whities. That’s from the city limits to the tallest “peak”. You’ll have to explore to find what kind of country you like to hunt
