Brutal hunting this year for my hunting group. Had shots on two different spikes and missed them both. Any successful harvests out there in these GMUs?
-
Me and my brother hunted 342 for the first time cause are usual area burned. Brother missed one Teusday afternoon, couple guys down the draw got him. Nice 1x2. Seen a few big bulls, no cows and no shooting. Hopefully Bethel will be huntable next year.

When you guys are missing animals, is this archery, muzzy or modern? Appears to be a lot of missing going on this year.....across the board, not just this thread. Wondering how many misses per weapon type.
Usually hunt two of the listed GMU's but didn't get out this year due to other hunts. Heard it was a tough hunt from buddies. At least you all saw shootable animals....which at least adds some excitement to your hunt.

This was during Modern for us, and makes it brutal, because you hardly get a second chance on a spike if you miss or don't get a shot. Oh well, still fun and now we get to make fun of the guy in our group because he was the rookie in camp. :)

Good hunting buddies never let another hunting buddy forget about a "miss" :chuckle:

I was successful in 340

Hunted 342 yesterday with my daughter got into elk 4 different times saw a couple spikes in a group but no shots from our position but did see another hunter miss 2 twice at that group.
-
Heard of 2 spikes taken on opening day in the little naches.
-
Awesome, thanks for the replys! I helped a guy get his spike onto an elk cart with his buddies to carry off the mountain, that was as close as I got to seeing a bull.
Living vicariously through others after eating elk tag soup this year.

My oldest daughter and I have late season cow tags so,I was pretty happy to see that many elk around already.
-
Late season Archery?
-
Saw a 340” bull taken in the rifle season in one of those units.

Late season Archery?
yea sorry

We hunted 342 muzzy.
No elk seen
No fresh tracks.
Hiked across county every day.
Four of us.
Worst I ever seen.
-
Hunted 346 for 2 days, 342 for 1. Seen about a dozen day 2 in 346 at about 2.7 light years (my rangefinder may have been off). Not a whole lot of sign either. Did not see one deceased elk in those days.
-
Did not hunt. What a waste of time. Elk camp used to be 1 of my favorites up the manastash, another in the little Naches. Man have times changed. Luckily I drew a any bull tag a few yrs ago and im done with elk on the eastern part of the state. My son is starting out so ill keep putting in for his youth points and then after that (3 more yrs) we will be out of state anyways.

I was in 342 the first 4 days of the modern season. Really only hunted 2 days due to some pretty brutal fog. My daughter and I saw 5 elk, 4 of which were spikes. She filled her tag opening afternoon. My brother filled his Monday morning.
I could have filled my tag with the second spike that was with the one my daughter shot. I was focused on her filling her tag and let him walk.

The camp next to us and the camp below us both got spikes in 346. We came up empty handed this year.
There was one guy I bumped in to that said a buddy got a 6x6 with an any bull tag on opening morning.

What’s better those 3 units or teanaway? Don’t know if I should
Chase spikes or jump up to teanaway for a shot at a cow.

hard to say I've killed a handful of spikes with my bow but I've also gone several seasons and not seen a spike.
-
Hunted Teanaway last late season with the same idea. 4 hunters hiked hard every day saw lots of wolf and cat tracks. Minimal elk tracks, our conclusion was the elk move out of the hills in private property. We would rather see elk every day even if we can't find a spike
-
Hunted 340 and didn't see a single elk. My brother saw on cow. Others I knew in the area did not see any animals. Was a tough year of camping with guns this year. Tag soup was a little bland, too.
But, hiking was good, scenery was nice, and the fellowship with my family is the main reason I go, anyway.

When you are already tagged out on elk but get within 45 yards of a spike bull in an open archery unit. What are the odds!? :chuckle:

Crying shame what has happened to the Yakmia herd of elk. I hunted 340 for 32 years last time was 15 years ago. The last year we hunted the Manastash unit we had a old midwest farmer in our camp and he couldn't understand why we could only shoot spikes, he said if your a farmer you don't eat next years seed corn. Tribal hunting has not done the area any favors either. When I quit hunting eastern Washington for elk I hunted the wet side for 8 years and killed 5 elk, muzzle loader and rifle. Since then I have doing my elk hunting out of state and going 7 for 7 on Bulls. I keep giving Washington my money, because I have several Quality Bull and Quality Deer points but never seem to get drawn. I hunted deer one day this year in Washington, the last day of late buck just because I had a tag. Washington hunting and fishing has literally gone to hell in a hand basket.

Totally agree.

Have hunted 342 for many years. Elk and mule deer used to be very plentiful in the unit. Haven't seen a decent buck in there for several years and the elk numbers are way down. Pretty pathetic the way the Yakima herd has gone down hill.

Alot of people "miss" but sometimes they don't bleed well i shot my bull this year a little back from the pocket and never found a drop of blood. Went in the morning to run a grid and found him 197 yards from where I shot him and still never found blood
