Title: Red Stag in Chile
Post by: jager on May 03, 2009, 10:07:38 PM: Just got an e mail from a real good buddy of mine that spends most of his time in Chile as a flyfishing guide.
We've had more great hunting trips here than I can recall.
He's been checking out the stag hunting down there for a few years. Scouting and talking to landowners.
Finally bought a rifle for big game and got the license squared away....what a pain!
These are his results from his first trip out to actually hunt them.
Looks like he did a great job loading up for the asado.
This is a fair chase no fence un-guided hunt. There are larger.... I've seen pics of sheds and stags on the hoof.
I've been waiting for the right time to go visit....looks like the time may be getting near!
Now if I can only coincide the stag hunt with some fishing for monster browns and rainbows I'd be happy!

Post by: callonetta on May 04, 2009, 05:27:17 AM: Southern Chile is a beautiful place and they have good stag populations but their hunting and gun laws are a bit restrictive, I found that crossing the border to Argentina makes things easier and you can find stags in free range areas or inside “estancias” of several thousand acres plus a bonus of European wild boar.
Supposedly leaving the skin on the beef while cooking it makes it tenderer and moist in the inside, I did not find much of a difference.
Guys, now you know where the beef’s at. :yike:
Your friend is lucky to be there doing what he does, pictures are awesome. :tup:

Post by: jackelope on May 04, 2009, 08:15:32 AM: my stepdad just came back from flyfishing for searun browns in argentina. he said it was amazing country. they caught some sea-run fish, but the water was very low. they ended up catching more resident fish.
