Title: Trapping conundrum
Post by: Jingles on January 03, 2022, 12:06:57 PM: Ok had cage trap tripped 2# of liver gone and unfortunately with 10 inches of snow since checking trap yesterday no fresh tracks visible, anyone have any guesses what might of robbed and tripped the trap?
Trap was set in a culvert under a road.

In my experience, using that much bait will bring a lot of skunks in. And a lot of them are small enough to get out of door bars

Post by: Jingles on January 03, 2022, 01:08:00 PM: Thanks for the replies and the entire trap is 2 x 2 square openings door is a drop down door with same material and size square openings and uses a 330 connibear type trigger, was thinking a weasel that might of gotten the bait but can't see it tripping the trigger, thinking had it been a stinky the odor would of still been around even if just a small one checked yesterday late morning and again early this morning
Plan on baiting and adding a weasel box in close proximity or just putting a weasel trap at the back of the cage under the bait

Post by: Humptulips on January 03, 2022, 01:27:41 PM: I doubt a weasel would eat that much bait that fast. If it was over here I would say civet. A mink or a marten could get out of 2x2. Skunk I don't think so. Pack rats? Also 2x2 a cat can get a bait out through the side if the sides are not well blocked. See any signs of that?

Cougar or wild/loose domestic dog. Both have visited my traps.

I know but last year had the same problem… and caught 3 marten that were raiding my cage and get out through the bars , koro and box cured that issue

I know but last year had the same problem… and caught 3 marten that were raiding my cage and get out through the bars , koro and box cured that issue

I wish I had that problem! My thieves have no money value.

Seeing as how research, Depending on source, says actual Civets are not in the US and are only in sub Saharan Africa, SE Asia, Southern China and the Spainish peninsula? Just curious as to whether this is a local colloquium for something else
