I haven't hunted in 25 ish years. I was talking with one of my daughters friends the other day and we both said we want to get back into it. Now the question, other that the obvious lic., gun, what to do? I haven't been able to pick up a copy of the WA regs to know how they work. If the hunting regs are similar to the fishing regs do I need to hire a lawyer? We talked about deer and elk. What do we need to do, (yes, I know this is a stupid question, but better to ask and learn than sit here with my tongue in my mouth and not know).

First off, weclome to the site and back to hunting. The regs are availabe online here: http://wdfw.wa.gov/wlm/game/hunter/hunter.htm (http://wdfw.wa.gov/wlm/game/hunter/hunter.htm). I don't think you'll need a lawyer. :chuckle: As far as other info, tell us where you're from and where you plan to hunt. That'll make it a bit easier to help out.

Pick a weapon. Pick a side of the state. If you have some old memories of hunting past look for that area on the game management unit map to get the number of you favorite old hunting spot. Lots of guys here are ready to give helpful information if not in the forum on the personal message side .... Hunting isnt always killing but its better than working............

just jump in ,grab the regs and it wont be long you will be back at it

We are in Kitsap. I have an old Remington 700 '06 with a Redfield scope (3x9). I hadn't hunted in WA so no old areas to look back on. I'm thinking the West side of the sound is close but if its not worth our time. I will check out the game unit map. Thanks for the link, I looked for the reg a while ago and the 09/10 weren't up yet. I'll snoop around them and see what I can figure out.

Welcome,
I am in Kitsap also. I am definatly not what you would call a seasoned hunter but I would be more than willing to try to help you out. What part of Kitsap are you in?

I'm originally from Kitsap, so I'd be interested in where to go if I'm back seeing the folks during late archery.
Oneezriter - Are you a submariner? My old man was the Doc on one of the boomers.

I was a SONAR tech for 9 years, Georgia and Alabama. Now I am a civialin working at Bangor. It's not a bad gig but I am trying to get away from working on subs. It just isn't the same culture as it used to be.

So where in this county can a guy site a high power rifle? Used to be you could get off most any forest service road in an area with some space and a safe back drop and check your sights. I imagine a lot has changed? Again in the Kitsap Area.
Pope can't always be wrong can he? :chuckle:

Only when he votes or talks politics :lol4:

It depends, there are a couple of rifle ranges, there is one off of clear creek road between silverdale and poulsbo. I think they charge $10 for a day. I know of a spot on the other side of the hood canal bridge but that won't open up for a while yet.

There's the Kitsap rifle and Revolver Club off of Seabeck Highway.
