Title: Where to go shooting near Olympia/ Shelton area...
Post by: Boot on January 11, 2022, 02:33:12 PM
Hi Guys, I would like to sight in a couple guns this weekend and trying to avoid going to the range. I used to have a spot I would go to near Shelton. The area is now Green diamond access permit only. Anyone willing to share a place or two that I could put up some paper and sight in a couple guns with the family this weekend?

Serious though, if you do some driving away from the Waddel Creek area, or the road to the Peak, you can find myriad spots to shoot all day and see nobody.

Any one; PM me and I'll send several drop pins for Capital Forest. Spent some time last summer searching for areas with very few spent cartridges on the ground.

Thanks guys. Ive heard that area gets quite a bit of traffic and some yahoos. Looking for a good place to bring the family and make it a good experience more than anything else. Not opposed to driving or walking off the beaten bath a bit to get away from guys shooting over each other. Also, do you need an access permit for that area? Ive heard conflicting info on that.

Need a discover pass, it’s DNR land.

Used to have a few good spots close to the edges in capital forest, but the “no shooting” boundaries keep going further and further in.  Pretty much have to stay on the Mccleary/porter side now.
