Let's see those beautiful bass!!
Here's my first for 2022 from last week when I was trying to stay away from my Omicron wife! It didn't work and now I have it. Hopefully I'll get back out by February!
-
My first guess would be that the bass was not vaccinated.............blame it on the bass.
-
Good one! Hit Lake Washington on January 16th and made about 20 casts...great day for a picnic on the boat with the family it turned out.
-

Might as well lol, when they're not eating every salmon in the PNW, they're spreading Covid I guess.
-
Nice fish. 👍🏻

Nice one, this time of year what are you throwing at them?
-
For largemouth I'll use a drop shot and electronics to establish depth. Once I've established a viable depth I'll throw A-Rigs, Carolina rigs, jigs etc. Anything I can move slow. I also target the moon phases, full and new. I've come to prefer rock cover in the Winter. It's fun but obviously not as easy as the rest of the seasons.

Must be having a heat wave in January down there standing in the water barefoot.🤣
Nice one.

Some motivation for the coming weekend
Water temps 44°
-
Good ones! Love the color on them, very pronounced.
-
Here's a 5.5 from today. Would trade it for the one I broke off!
-
You're killing them Sam! Nice work.

Actually I think he’s a catch and release guy :chuckle:

Nice! I’m assuming you’re running some kind of fish finder. If you don’t mind asking what kind? I bought a Garmin 93sv with the panopix livescope for ice fishing. I’m anxious to use it on the boat, it was a game changer for ice I’m certain it will be a changer for soft water.
-
What technique are you having luck with this time of year?
-
Thanks Gary! Wish I was getting out more, but I'll take it!
mtnwkr: jigs and drop shot just because water temps are still below 50°.
Southpole: yes, I've become a bit of an electronics geek the past few years. It's essential for finding the off-shore cover required for year-round bass fishing. I'm currently running four Lowrance HDS Carbon 12's, two at the console and two at the bow. The larger screens allow me to split all the screens to cover map, 2D, side scan and downscan. Seems excessive to some, but makes alot of sense when you see it in action. Here's links to two videos I did, one going over Winter sonar tactics and one covering my jig fishing

Has anyone on here ever fished the North end of Sammamish right about now for LM?

Lol. I prefer the smallmouth.

Yes. April would be better on that lake and in that area. Fewer and fewer largemouth in that lake, smallies have pretty much taken over. It's also Selective Gear Rules now because ten soon to be extinct salmon return every other year or something. :chuckle:
-
Always look forward to this thread every year. Way to kick it off with some nice largies!
-
Cool videos, thanks! I have always shrugged off electronics, but now, like you mentioned, it saves a lot of your time. It absolutely helps with being more productive and successful. It’ll be interesting to see how much I’ve missed out by not knowing where fish were in certain areas in lakes/rivers I have previously fished.

Glad to hear it!

BOOM! Now we're talkin'!
-
Tired of the cold, but these rainy days have been good!
-
What time of day are you doing your catching? Last summer it was early or late but I was thinking they'd be most active this time of year in the afternoon when it warms a degree or two. Does that sound correct?
-
A pair of 4-11's and a 5-8
-
:hello:
-
Tubs
-
Not as big as the tanks posted above but the boy was super excited to land his first large mouth of the year!

Summer means hotter water, so early and late you are catching them transitioning to and from shallow feeding flats to deeper water. Night fishing in the summer months can be ridiculous. Vegetation causes shallow water oxygen levels to fluctuate during the hot months, making the evening and early morning bites more conducive also. Right now, any time of day can be good. Cover and depth are more important, 10 feet or less and rock and wood cover (that includes docks with wood pilings, docks are overhead cover, NOT structure)
Some beauties!! And first of the year is always AWESOME!

Fun night
-
Got the shanks practicing for last week's tournament. Slowly shaking it off.
-
My son and I went out yesterday for our first fishing trip of 2022. We ended up with 4 largemouth, no hogs. The fish wanted a slow presentation. 3 fish came on a jig with a craw plastic, one on a motoroil worm. Picture is of a double we hit. I tossed a chatterbait and slow rolled a spinnerbait with no luck. I haven't pitched a jig in a long time. I like using an Uncle Josh pork trailer on jigs, but I haven't seen them in stores for some time. Plastic craw seemed to work fine.
-
Man I’m getting antsy to get the boat out :4w:
-
I got on a jerkbait bite with the vision 110

Got out yesterday eve, got a 3.7lb on a lipless crank. It was tough fishing, very pressured and no one else was catching much either.
-
Keep em comin!
-
Going out Sunday on the Dworshak for HUGE smallies. Hopefully have some photos to post on Monday!!
-
Fishing was a bit slow on the Dworshak Reservoir, but oh man what a beautiful day on the water. I caught the first bass, a 2.5 pound smallie. Then I caught my second and last fish, which happened to be a Personal Best for me. 5 pounds 1.5 ounces. I would imagine the fishing for smallies will only get better the next two to three weeks. The other two guys in the boat caught 4 bass and 2 trout. One of the bass was 3 pounds 4 ounces. The other three were under a pound.
-
:yike: Nice smallmouth!
I wish the weather would warm up a bit, I need to get out bad!

It's starting to rock & roll out there!!  :IBCOOL:

Hit curlew today. Water temps in the morning were 44 degrees, I felt we didn’t have the patience or skill to get a bass to bite (we tried ) so we just caught trout :'( Still fun though.
-
Caught a couple piñatas on Cinco de Mayo

They are starting to hit the glide. 8" bait for reference.

Didn’t know you tourney fished, where was the tournament?
Nice fish, they on beds yet?
-
Thanks!
Just decided to do it this year. Joined two local clubs, Pond Jumperz and Borderline Bassin Contenders. Been documenting all of it on my channel so I can watch it back when I hurt too much to continue lol. This was a BBC members event on Lake Samish.
Yes, the smallies have been bedded for two weeks, largies should be there now too. I didn't fish this week due to my wife totalling her car (no injuries). Hopefully get back out next weekend 👍
-
It was actually sunny one day!
-
TTT :chuckle:
-
Sooo, is anyone having some issues having successful spiny ray fishing due to the cold wet weather?
-
Bass has been really good this year but have had to vary tactics due to weather. Patterns seem to change very quickly on what's working due to weather. Where in years past it would stay stable patterns for long periods of time. What I have noticed is panfish fishing has been all over the board and has been tougher this year for crappie. 3 trips out we have probably caught 130 crappie. But only 8 have made 9 to 10 inches. They have been smaller this season. So not much for keepers yet. And another trip on the eastside struck out on crappie due to weather when typically it would be lights out on those locations fished. But again bass fishing was really good so still had a good outing.
The biggest struggle with bass on some fisheries is just way to much pressure in small areas. Seems everyone is fishing bass these days. But change tactics from others and you will see success. But its tough to show up to a spot you think you want to fish and see 8 boats all sitting on a 50 yard channel. And they sit there all day waiting to catch a couple bass passing through that channel. Plenty of areas on the lake to fish. So I cover water.
-
The kid is gettin his grip n grin down lol
-
Pond fishing in the tiny boats and caught this 7-11 beast. Good times with friends and my 8 year old son/fishing buddy was able to net it for me.
-
Managed a 2nd Place finish on Terrell today 👍

Wow, nice one.👍

Caught the small one and the bigger one was chasing it. I put the one I caught in the livewell for a minute and chucked a Senko back by the piling. Line started swimming off while I was talking to the camera lol
-
For the last 2 days I waivered between going to the river today for my first salmon trip of the year or do a hail mary last trip of the summer for bass. This made me glad I picked what I did. 4.2lbs, and quite a few nice fun sizers in the 2lb range. Love the side eye the dog is giving the fish in the pic, haha.
-
Nice bass! The side eye is super funny :chuckle:
-
good lookin dog pete

Partnered up with a great young angler named Rian and took first place in yesterday's members only team tournament with Borderline Bassin Contenders!
We had 16+lbs in the first hour! :yike:
Ended the day with the win and big fish as both of our first keepers of the day weighed 4.66lbs

Got 1st Place and Big Fish at the Pond Jumperz season finale 'The Classic' today!!
Also in a statistical tie for Angler Of the Year between myself and Andrew Johnson! It came down to cumulative weight for the year and as I predicted (the second I found out Potholes was a points trip)...guess what cost me AOY...Potholes!!🤬
.
I would like to dedicate this season to my Mom and late Grandpa Lester ❤🎣👍
-
Found a good one over the weekend on the drop shot

Is that certified lead free ?
🤪
Nice fish

Thank you! :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: It's definitely tungsten free given the gas money it took to get up there! Weigh-ins should be a fun time from here on out.

Oink, what a pig!! Well done.

Pig of a fish...even more impressive if it came out of upper Roosevelt. Just a guess btw.

It weighed in at 5.88# and is my new smallie PB. It was my first time up at this lake and I'll definitely be visiting it more in the spring.
