Nothing Says "I love you Mom" more than: "Were getting up early and cramming into the car to go to the beach to dig clams!"
Last razor-clam dig of the season starts
Saturday at four ocean beaches
OLYMPIA - Clam diggers have received the go-ahead to proceed with the last razor-clam dig of the season, starting Saturday, May 9 at four ocean beaches.
Beaches open for razor-clam digging Saturday morning include Long Beach, Twin Harbors, Copalis and Mocrocks. Two beaches - Long Beach and Twin Harbors - will also be open for digging Sunday, May 10. Digging on all beaches must be completed by noon both days.
The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) authorized the digs after a series of marine toxin tests conducted by the Washington Department of Health confirmed the clams are safe to eat.
The department is able to offer one more dig this season, because there are sufficient clams remaining in the total allowable harvest for the four ocean beaches, said Dan Ayres, WDFW coastal shellfish manager. Low tides this weekend are as follows:
Saturday, May 9 (7:23 a.m. -1.2 ft.) - Long Beach, Twin Harbors, Copalis and Mocrocks
Sunday, May 10 (8:02 a.m. -1.2 ft.) - Long Beach, Twin Harbors

They must have ordered this weather just for the Moms who had to go clam digging. It;s beautiful on grays harbor today with sunshine lots of clams and a 3 foot ocean swell looks like a nice day to go bass and lingcod fishing.

We nailed the clams. Dug 60 clams in 45 minutes. No kidding. Best day ever. Both my kids and wife all pulled some clams as we broke in a new clam gun. Saved my back, usually 60 clams is a bit on these aging bones. We nearly had the beach to ourselves, had to take a hike to get someone to take our group photo. We dug good sized clams with out even getting near the water, there was even a huge exposed bar just beyond us which I would usually risk getting dunked to get on, but didnt even have to get near waves to get a single clam. Our boots were dry when we were done. We wore our jeans to breakfast. Shows everywhere. The beach was teaming with clams, and no diggers. My quickest dig for 60 clams ever.

We bundled up the kids and headed out to Grayland this morning. Beautiful day. Got about three dozen clams.
I'll put up a picture later, seems the Mrs. took the camera with her this afternoon when she headed out for her raft trip. Has our elk and turkey pictures on it.
