What do you think the best hunts are for the westside muzzleloader hunter to put in for? i dont have quite enough points to try for eastside rifle yet-but dont want to loose what I have (5 or 6) on a crappy hunt...Any advice appreciated....Lewy

Nooksack or OTC

With the so called point system this state has you have plenty of points to put in for East side bull tags. Just like any other raffle drawing, it does not matter if you have 600 names in the hat or 1, someone is gonna draw if their name is in there.

You really have only two choices that you have a realistic chance of drawing... Toutle and Margaret. Both are better than any general season but if you want a record book bull you might not want to waste your points. If you just want to kill a bull either one would be a decent hunt.
You would actually have a little better odds of drawing a bull permit if you applied for some of the eastside ones. Plus the season on those starts two days earlier and that gives you a better chance of catching the tail end of the rut.

There are some absolute pigs in the Nooksack. Did some work with the RMEF up there enhancing the habitat- we found some MONSTER nontypical sheds with crazy palminations. They have only been (legally) hunted for the last year. It was the first time since it was shut down awhile back. Solid genetics and the RMEF makes sure they have the feed and minerals to do well.
Look at the success rates of the toutle and margaret for muzzle too. I think the guys that do well know the area and herds- plenty of unsuccessful hunters who draw, so I would put your points towards a higher % unit. Search this forum- there should be pics of the guy who took a dandy on the nooksack tag. :twocents:
